Just talked to Skennerton and he got this story from a guy in afghanistan.
Troops were taking fire from a sniper so far away that they couldn't spot him.
finaly, air was called in and an old man 2000 yds away was chased from his hidey hole.

The rifle was subsequently recovered. Was it a Dragunov or a captured American sniper rifle?

Noooo, it was a No1Mk3! Granted the guy was lobbing in the rounds, but
"to whom it may concern" can be just as nasty as something aimed at you.

I knew that those volley sights weren't obsolete and they shouldn't have removed them ...

Afghan tribesmen have been chasing Europeans around their mountains for centuries. Most of them start learning to shoot from the cradle. Chances are that No.1 was made by a guy with a file too.

My great uncle told me that the "friendly" Afghans on the Khyber Pass would say hello by shooting 3 feet above your head into the rock wall, in his opinion the difference between a "friendly" Afghan and an "unfriendly" Afghan was 3 feet. This dates back to the early 1920's, my uncle was running mule trains, after that he was sent to Mesopotamia - the more things change the more they stay the same, my cousin is now in Iraq.

I know our 762 C6 on a tri pod will shoot 1800m which is just shy of 2000 yards, So you never know, Wouldn't be max effective range if it did not wound or kill.

Any bullet dropping out of the sky will be doing about 500fps, ie, terminal velocity. In the right sopt, it will kill or wound.

well, the original volley sights went farther then that...I wouldn't stand in front of one, I do know that....
