So are these British rack numbers on a Gew 98

So no one has seen markings like this on a Gewehr 98? I've seen British markings but they were not stenciled.
I would lay even money on these markings being French, 2-to-1 on them being Belgian.
The BL could be Bataillon Legere or something similar, which, in English would be Light Battalion: backwards.
I do know hat the Belgians had a batch of P-'14s converted to 7.92x57JS in the 1920s; this one would have fit right in.
