I was just wondering if anyone has heard anything from the RCMP about the alleged prohibition of the M&P 15/22 magazines? Are we all criminals without even knowing or are we still just a bunch of chicken littles?

We're all still vicious criminals, and I don't believe owners will get notifications.

From what i've heard some/most retailers have been notified and have either disposed or pinned their mags.

I am sure the saying will be " Ignorence of the law is no excuse and you are in possession of a prohibited device" I will take that thank you very much and the guns as well because you are useing the Prohibited device in a firearm

FAIL.

Why do most of you guys figure cops are all high and mighty ? I used to ride my sportbike like a total d-bag and that sent me to court more then a few times. Sure they can come in and say "i'll take that thank you and your guns as well". Then you go to court with your lawyer and make the cop look like a complete fool infront of the court and judge for taking your guns. You get the guns back, the cop gets a slap on his wrist for being an idiot and you call it a good day. You buy the gun THEY SAY is legal, then they come take it and all your other guns without so much as a letter saying its become prohib and then try call YOU ignorant ? hahaha Thats a pretty open and shut case people, i wouldnt loose too much sleep over it.

I am in no way trying to start an arguement here but I would not call it an open and shut case , the law is there and it would be up to the cop to use it and it is not like they havent seized guns that when they were bought they were classed non-restricted and were changed to prohib.

Riding a sportbike and useing a prohibited device are apples and oranges ,Look at the punishments for the offences that you are talking about . If you were in possession of a couple of prohibited mags you really dont think the cops would justifided in seizing your firearm? "oh sorry officer I dident know I wasent alowd to to have a 30rnd AR mag in my gun" I did not know that was against the law honest . Sorrey officer dident know I cant drink and drive

Judges dont buy the "I dident Know" I doubt you would make the cop look like an ass if he is right about the mag

At what cost to you for the lawyer, etc? Judges tend to think the sun shines out of most cops asses. Just because something is legal now doesn't mean it is legal forever, specially guns.

Retailers have not been told to do anything with their inventory. For those of you that question this, call WSS and ask if they have the original mags for sale.

Was there ever a time where you could purchase an ar-15 with an un-pinned 30 round mag ? Im only asking because i dont know but im going to assume the answer is no and that is the problem. If you buy a stock 25 round mag ITS THE POLICE OFFICERS JOB to assure YOU KNOW that they changed thier mind on its status. Court is baised on PROOF, and you are innocent untill proven guilty. That being said its the police officers job to PROVE not only that you had them which is the easy part, but that you KNEW they were prohib. Now what proof do they have of that ? Did they ever send a letter ? Did they call ? Not everyone reads these fourms. My fight in court would be that the police didnt think to send a letter or a call, what good is this gun registry if they know you have these guns but cant look at it and put two and two together. Im not arguing the mags are illegal, all im saying is that most people dont use these fourms and how are they to know ?

I guess that all boils down to how much money sits in your gun cabnet. I personally will go fight every traffic ticket i get so this would be a sure bet id be sitting in court. You are completely wrong about the judge thinking the sun shines out of cops asses. That may be true in drunk driving cases how ever when court times and costs are being tied up becuase the cops were too lazy to send out a simple letter the cops wont be sitting in that room looking so good. I understand the mags might become prohib and im not arguing they will be taken away, taking all or any guns is where i draw the line.

You would be wrong.

For years, the AR was just another rifle, and the capacity of its magazines was a non issue.

Police may lay charges, but it is up to the Crown to decide if they will proceed to court.

Questar received written notification from the RCMP about the RCMP's position respecting the classification of this magazine. It appears that the situation has not progressed any further.

If push comes to shove, it will be the RCMP determination that will be the basis for charges proceeding.

Until the situation is clarified, it seems that there is a state of limbo. Dealer wants to sell the magazines, buyer wants to purchase them, they are free to do as they choose. They will also be free to deal with whatever develops down the road.
