I am torn between a sks and a 10 22. Ultimately I am going to buy both, but not sure what I want first. I am going to post also in the urplus military thread so Not all opinions are biased. I am going to modify which ever i chose. I will be buying this week so i will be posting pics of my decision any help?

If going into winter and you were planning on shooting indoors then I would say get the 22. But as it's Summer...

Also I would up your budget and get the CZ858 over the SKS. It's a lot more fun.

I was in a similar situation. Having just got back into shooting after a long while, after reading the CGN forums, I just had to have a SKS or a 10/22. I bought the SKS first and 1400rds of ammo, a month later I bought a SR22 (due to great deal). I much prefer the SR22 for just the sheer fun and economy. My wife and I bring both to the range, but I have to say the 22 gets the most use.

Not only is it the cheapest calibre to shoot, but it's also the best to learn on. Ive seen many people jump into center fire cartridges and develope horrible flinches because they just aren't used to a gun's recoil, even with a low recoil cartridge like an 7.62x39. A .22 helps a shooter to become comftorable and is great for getting friends and coworkers out to the range because almost anyone is capable of shooting one.

Like previously stated a SKS is a must have, but in MY opinion it would make a better second rifle than first.
