Gents..just found a Glock 17 on the EE...should have it in a few weeks..Nothing fancy, just a Gen 1 9mm...I have a bit of experience with pistols, not alot with the Glock...Any thoughts on what I should tweak to get her running well?

I was thinking long and hard over the same pistol....but I thought the price was a bit stiff for a Gen 1 with 1 mag....then again, they don't exactly show up every day like the later generations. Personally, I wouldn't do a darn thing to it....they are becoming pretty sought after by the Glock guys and with the original box and paperwork, command a premium in the U.S.

She's going to be used, but not shot to death for sure..if you can shoot a Glock to death...more of a tryout to find a good sidearm for IPSC...If I like her, mabe a new one down the road...

I put a Hogue slip on grip, a little longer mag release, and a trijicon front sight on mine. It's great!

Congrats!

This thread needs a pic! here is my Gen2 and shes a beauty

extended slide release, 3.5 lb connector, light spring kit and your good to go, if you want to get techincal you could do alot more but the trigger pull is improved alot by just doing the connector. I will be posting a glock build with upgrades in the next few days if your interested.

They are pretty reliable right out of the box for many years without changing a thing. I personally wouldn't change anything, like the saying goes "if it aint broke, don't fix it".

Thanks for the advice gents....not likely to change much starting off,but I do like hi viz type sights...nice pic Bobbyv8,and 1glock2nv post away sir..looking forward to any info I can find..cheers..

As neat as the newer gen Glocks are.....the gen 1 17 is the only Glock I'd buy. Back when it was introduced,it was the oddest thing in the world...a plastic gun! This is the model that put Glock on the map and if you pick one up and study it,the fit and finish is much different from today. The slide is finished in a flat black coating and the polymer frame has mould marks and seams all over the place...its pretty cool to see it before the "perfection" slogan was adopted. I remember a police friend of mine letting me handle his 17 way back when...it felt like a toy...I could hardly believe it fired ammunition. Its a modern classic as far as I'm concerned.

I just bought a Gen 2 Glock 22....Havent shot it yet but it fits my hands perfectly...Mine has night sights and an extended slide stop....The only other thing I wanna do is install an extended mag release...The stock mag release on Glocks are really small I find....

No upgrades. Spend the money on ammo! I have a gen 3 G17 and absolutely love it. Actually the ONLY thing I would ever do to it would be some new high vis sights.
