So I bought a new 686 4.2" model...

It's been 14 days since my trade-in btw, and the receipt indicates 14 days for trades/exchanges. I'm hoping this is flexible as I really can't accept what I have already paid for unfortunately!

It's difficult to judge from photos, but I get the sense that you have a typical specimen of a good-quality (not custom) mass-produced gun, nothing to really get too worked up over. Since you traded in guns for this one, I assume that you bought it in person locally, rather than by mail? If so, did you check it over carefully in the shop? I'm not trying to be difficult here, but I expect that the retailer will ask you something very similar.

My only concern is if there are marks on the screws from someone taking if apart. If it were my gun I would go out and fire a few hundred rounds through it. You might be happy again.

The marks on the muzzle are from the machining at the factory and normal. For a run-of-the-mill revolver, they don't spend much time polishing them any more, too labour intensive.

next time take it out of the box and look at it b4 you buy it. most shops let you do this.

And when you look at them. Trust me that the way most of them look,. (you get what you pay for when you buy a cheap gun.)

I didn't realize a 686 was considered a cheap gun! I am pretty OCD I'll admit, but the end of the barrel scratches have depth to them. Definitely not the way it comes from the factory I would think. I'll definitely bring it in on Tuesday and see what they can do. If they can get rid of them, that's just as good as getting a replacement in my books. I'm sure it'll shoot fine. I just want it to look better than my GP-100 (which is supposed to be the ugly one).

Most guns under $1000 will have factory dents and milling marks "no big deal" you would be lucky to find one that does not.

Your crown looks perfect and there is no damage to the the barrel of reciever.

Just go and shoot it already :D

If you're not happy now, you're never going to be happy with it so take it back to the shop/bring it up with them. They should be happy to exchange it for you. I don't think you're being unreasonable.

A dealer showed me the new gun I bought, and I was so excited I was like "Yeah, yeah, yeah, looks good," dying to take it home.
Well, I should've looked harder because it had a small nick on the barrel hood, but that is my fault for not looking it over.

Your call, I'd take it back if I were you, and not happy.

That salesman was biting his tongue hoping you wouldn't notice the scratches from when he dropped it showing the customer before you... Look at the bright side. You wont feel like total #### when you put a scratch on it at the range!
