Opinions please:

Got a great deal on a new shotgun today. Normally I would clean and oil it asap and get it to the range for some fun.

However I'm not going to be getting a chance to shoot this one for a while due to a very busy couple months coming up.

So the question is can I just leave the factory grease on it for a whille and drop it in the safe as is out of the box? A friend suggested putting it in a gun sock treated with silicone before going in the safe.

Opinions?

"Factory grease" varies from what I've seen. The best bet is to take it apart and inspect and if you feel it's greasy enough for storage you can clean later.....if not clean it up and lube it for storage.

I would follow Can-down's advice…and definitely clean it up if its covered with "Norinco grease"! That stuff will pool in the bottom of the cabinet.
