Off my sks stock today,,,had to do it at my parents house cause my oven doesn't go as low as 150 degrees,,, anyway after almost 2 hours of wiping it down every 15 minutes, it was still sweating the stuff,, but I had to go.

So my question is that I was planning on goin to the range Thursday with it, any negative side effects to the stock if it isn't 100% rid of the cosmoline and I go shooting it? I got out a crap load of it though... Washed the metal parts by hand/spirits/break cleaner. Any advice would be appreciated. Thx all

Make sure to take the bolt apart and clean the pin and channel. The pin should rattle when its clean and shook around. Happy shooting.

...and if you don't get all the cosmo out of the stock, then the wood that gets warm when you fire it may leak some cosmo. I found my Mosin would sweat out some cosmo from the foregrip when I didn't clean it enough the first time. I had some paper towels in my range bag so it wasn't a problem.

Thx for the replies all...

Firing pin rattles well, took it apart was very cosmoleney inside, lol. And actually just notice a red stain in 2 places on the stock. I'll try to get pictures. The cosmoline hides a lot of imperfections on the stock, lol.

Should I re-finish the wood now? Err like... Seal it?
