So I was at my buddies place this past sunday and he offered to trade me an old rifle for his share of the surplus order we made (got in on the frontier firearms 40% off deal)
Got it home and realized it was a remmy P17! It's been sporterized, and not in the greatest shape....but damn! I've always wanted to have one of these things.
Did some searching on the forum but couldn't find much up to date information. Where would a guy go to find parts? What's it worth? I'd love to restore it to its original configuration.

You need to be a lot more specific than that. If it's in sad condition it may not be worth restoring even if you can find the appropriate parts. If the barrel has been cut back it definitely isn't worth the time/effort/expense.

Look for a decent one on the EE or at gun shows. Depending on condition they sell as complete rifles starting at $400 up to $750+

From the way you describe that rifle it may not be worth what your "bud" owes for his share of the order.

Poor condition, poor bore equals sum of what the usable parts are worth. $50-$100

Value depends on condition and originality. If the barrel was shortened, the rear sight ears milled off, receiver drilled and tapped, or stock cut to sporterize it, value is diminished a lot.

Commercial replacement stocks are available from Boyds. New military pattern barrels are made by Criterion. Parts can be found at Numrich or Springfield Sporters who offer a selection with either Winchester, Remington or Eddystone markings. I don't know if SS still exports to Kanada, but Numrich does. A licensed broker must be used to import a barrel.

Pictures and a bore description are always useful in determining value.

Barrel is unaltered as far as I can tell. But yes receiver drilled and tapped. Ears gone.....a shame. Still worth it in my eyes though. I mean, his share was only about a hundred bucks. I have been looking for a project.
Will post pictures tonight

I saw one at the Renfrew gun show. I believe it was around $1900.00. Same person has 2 P14's $550 for the beatup one and around $900 for the other. They were non sporterized ones. I wanted a P17 with the rear site intact but it was a little rich for me.

That is pretty Steep for a P17. I have a Remington P17 original condition that I paid $240.00 for in 2003 and was thinking all I'd get for it would be maybe $600.00. Maybe the one in Renfrew was actually Sergeant Yorks! ;)
