Never thought I ever do it but I just seems to make sense, I was yawning and practically falling asleep while putting in the order that's how boring this caliber is ;) but this seemed like a Good deal.

Anybody else on here order one of Anthony's (tradeex) sporter Swede Mausers ?

A swede sporter in 30/06, is it in a 96 action?

Yes - I have one of the 96 actions, and one of the 98 based actions - neither in 06 for the stated reasons! Both were stated to be in VG condition. I would say the Tradex ratings were slightly optimistic - particularly in the area of the wood. The beech used is not the most durable, and are showing some wear after 50 years of use. However, I like the styling of the rifles, and the pedigree. (Most of these rifles are true Husqvarnas, and not just cob ups). On balance they represented good value for me.
Finally, Anthony made every effort to facilitate the transaction - fast, professional and courteous.

When you see a rating of good or good+ on a 75 to 100 year old rifle, I would not expect it to look the same as someone on the forum selling a 10 year old hunting rifle stating in good condition. I take it to mean good for the age, and you should not be disappointed. I have purchase a rifle from him and it was exactly as I expected.....

There is a reason why the 30/06 is boring round. Its because everyone has one. And everyone has one because its a damn good cartridge.

Magnum calibers are nothing more than an excuse, for those not willing to practice and maintain their marksmanship skills on a regular basis. There is nothing that the .30-06 won't put down on this continent, providing of course the shooter carries out his part. If you reload .30-06 you have a choice of 60 plus different projectiles available on the market today.

I just wish to Christ that his business and toys were over here.

That "Magnum as a crutch" line is just as boring as the 30-06.

Cosmic, I agree and I've bought five rifles there, bore condition has been somewhat less than advertised on a couple. As far as the 30-06 being boring , I don't mind having a couple of boring work every time on anything I need them to rifles in the safe.

X2. I didn't buy a magnum because I needed it, but because I wanted it. If the .338-06 or the whelen came in factory offerings (more than the CDL), they'd sell millions.

Every rifle can enter the boring category if you practice enough and use the right bullet at the right time. Got a 300 magnum that fits that bill, and a 405 Win and a . . . . . . . . :)

I got my factory .35 Whelen in '88. They never sold very well then either, the market for mid-range thumpers just isn't that big. Enthusiasts will keep it going in a small way, factory or custom.

Ad nauseum...
I don't think anyone is putting the 30-06 Springfield round down, it's just that the cartridge is so generic that it just isn't WSM/SAUM/WSSM fancy.
I have several rifles chambered in the "venerable" 06. If they were chambered in 308 Win, I probably wouldn't ever think of selling them.
Everyone has their most/least favourite.
As for "a magnum is an excuse for a lousy shot etc", that's getting pretty thin too. Better mousetrap...

The 30-06 is a cartridge that to a lot of people is boring I can see you point I have 2 tucked back in the Gun room someplace that I could take out and hunt with for anything at any given time! right beside 7-8 of them that get carried in our deer camp, or the 7-8 that get taken to moose camp, or all my cousins that take there -06 to hunt bear with!
the 30-06, maybe next to the 30-30 still dominate the % of deer hunting cartridges carried in most northern Ontario deer camps, because they work, the ballistics are great and most factory ammo shoots the general POI one 06 to the next I have found.
Are they really boring no! just popular like driving a chevy or ford 4x4 it not the only one on the road!
Its a Cartridge that everone loves to hate, and everyone hates to love, but everyone knows its likely the do it all cartridge and everyone would use it in a second for any game in North America!

I like Custom Magnums, do I need them No, do they kill any better, no but its pretty neat to bring something to camp that no one has heard of, they look and say thats to big for deer or moose but when you construct a load that you know works, a lot of the time you tear deer of moose up a lot less than the 30-06 does from the average guys soft point rounds!

Mylesrom - Regarding your comment about age being a consideration when stating condition ... There is a standard for grading firearms, established by the NFA. It sets conditions exterior, mechanics and bore - without consideration of age. Many of us prefer to use this as it takes out possible subjectivity. If you've got an old copy of Access to Firearms, the grading system is published.
If you use this standard, it would be unusual to see a fifty year old hunting rifle in better than good condition.

Yeah, I have seen the grading system. But I don't recall him stating his rifles were NRA or NFA good, he just stated good, so I doubt he is comparing it to the rating guide, nor does he state he does. I think when you pay 200 or 300 bucks for a used rifle, I would not be expecting too much. You don't get much for 200 to 300 bucks on the exchange forum either. The couple of rifles I bought from him were as stated, but if you are in doubt, don't buy from him.

I had one guy sell me a 8x57 Mauser on the exchange and stating a good shiny bore. When I received it, it was the filthiest bore I have ever seen. Once cleaned, it was totally pitted. Luckily he gave me my money back.

For the money paid, im not expecting a gem, I dont' mind refinishing the stock....Im thinking of perhaps using this boring cartridge to put a moose to sleep next fall, I just hope it shoots half decent.

I agree with this statement, but partially agree with the former. A 30-06 cannot do at 300yds what a 300 Winrem short belted magnum can with 180gr + bullets. Which means that they are identical in paper performance within 85% of normal hunting range. I'll still pack a 300 WM elk hunting when possible, on a long distance/epxpensive trip.

Pathfinder, you need to post pictures when you get the chance. Try to find an old Lyman alaskan, or Leupold Pioneer, maybe a marbles or lyman peep to make it all period. Enjoy!
