So I want to build a 1911...

As the title says, I'd like to build a 1911.

I'm not really sure where to start, so if you've built one, pm me and let's chat.


Let me be more precise:

I know I will need to start with a stripped frame/slide.

Recommendations on parts, and parts to stay away from?

So start with a stripped frame and stripped slide and go from there?

I ask becouse the word "build" gets thrown around loosely in the gun world.
 
Yes if you're building a wide-body 9mm 1911.
Why bother?
just buy the complete gun.

FWIW....
Unless you buy 1911 parts designed to be installed by a gunsmith.
And have the skills required to fit them properly.
You will simply end up with a gun that may or may not be safe to fire.
And even if safe that gun may not meet expectations for accuracy or reliability.

I started with a norc. 1911's aren't lego AR's. The next best thing to a norc is one of the 80% kits. Forged SS. Thr only problem is you need to be an experienced machinist lol.

No you don't, all you need is a vise, a drill and a good quality jig kit from the US.
 
Make an outline of the parts you will require and purchase them. A simple build can use mostly drop in
parts which would require little hand fitting. I have done surplus pistols. Then you should take it to a gunsmith
for a final inspection before firing it. I did a old black park high power that required some springs. Had it checked
by Browning Canada, they said to destroy it because it had slide frame issues. You are using a Norinco 45, which
are very well built,so you have no problems
 
Start with a Norc., (by the way, the steel in Norc frames and slide is excellent). Replace parts as you feel necessary. I started with one, replaced a few parts, but the gun actually shot pretty damn good as it was so it's on the back burner. Fusion firearms sells everything 1911 and they ship here. One thing to note, it is a good project but you will never ever get your money out of it. You could spend 5k in upgrades and the registration slip will always say Norinco

This wont be a 'make my money back' gun. This will be something fun to tinker with long term. Anyone know if marstar still sells blank frames?
