Whoever told you the incorrect information should be informed they are wrong and should also stay out of the business of firearms owners. This person obviously doesnt own firearms or know SFA about firearms laws, so they should keep thier incorrect blathering to themselves instead of trying to be all high and mighty attempting to make a legitimate firearm owner look like a criminal.
One more time. This is such a common mistake.
Look at the first post. Somebody was trying to be nice, to help keep the OP out of trouble. Turning around and insulting them is not only bad manners, but it's also going to help lead to the inevitable loss of shooting sports in Canada.
Such people are
not stupid. They are
not troublemakers. They are
not fools. They are average people who have been misinformed. So much of the info and image presented WRT firearms in this society is wrong - it's no wonder that many people are afraid of guns, that many people think that the long gun registry will actually help prevent street crime, that taking away our firearms will make the country safer.
Don't blame them - that's all they have been told for their whole lives. We on this forum may know better, but that doesn't make us better or smarter or nobler. It just means that we have been exposed to the real truth, to unbiased facts. Somebody took the time for us.
Every time that we have a chance to bring such people over to our side, but blow it by being rude or throwing them the finger or calling them names, we have hurt shooting sports for every gun owner in Canada. They'll remember that moment the next time an election rolls around and gun control is on the table. Every time we do that, we drive such people into the arms of the anti's.
C'mon people - it's not that difficult to understand! Being rude and ignorant, especially in cases like this, hands a vote next election to somebody who wants to ban guns. Taking time to discuss things rationally, present the real facts in a polite fashion - that helps us. It's not rocket science.
Gun owners, hunters, shooters need to educate ourselves so that we can discuss gun control confidently, so that we can successfully dismiss the nonsense and bias spouted as rationales for stiffer gun control. We need keep calm and take every chance we can get to show members of the public that the popular, alarmist presentation of firearms and firearms owners is wrong.
If every one of us could convince just one single person, the anti's would have lost the battle completely.
It's up to you.
It's your choice.
