So is a M1 Carbine any good for CQB and what other equipment some one need to start shooting CQB

Sure thing. We have had quite a few SKS and CZ rifles show up. They all have fun. Practice your mag changes. Got a vest with some pouches for the 5/30 rounders? This winter is a time to evolve your gear and get ready for the coming season. Got a handgun for the transition to pistol matches? Couple of magazines are all you need. We've witnessed quite a few Tokarevs out with us, also some P38 Walthers (Ex-Police?). They might be a tad slow on the reloads since the mag release for those P38's or P1's are on the heel of the pistol grip, but it's all about being safe AND having fun.

So on your vest or chest rig or plate carrier, set up your magazine pouches for rifle and pistol so that your weak hand will access the magazines and facilitate a rapid and subconscious magazine change. We will make you good and fast! ;)
At most you will need 5 x 5/30 rd magazines or 5 x 5/20 rd magazines (some people use the M14 in CQB, even if the ammo is quite dear). And also the 2 x pistol magazines. That is the magazine count for our Service CQB matches at Base Borden's Langemark Range.

Cheers,
Barney

more then enough, you sure have an advantage over the Sks's in terms of speed of mag changes, then all you need is some way of holding your mags, not sure what your options are for an m1carbine maybe pistol mag pouches?

A M-1 carbine should be a natural. You could probably get away with using standard mag. pouches - 5/30s would stick out nicely to make them easy to grab.
I would be inclined to add an optic. Some commercial carbines are drilled and tapped on the left side of the receiver for a sidemount.
Of course, you'd have to add a variety of bells, whistles and bobble-headed dolls to make it tactikewl.....;)

You have to look good in the mirror! And let's not forget those YouTube videos! It's all about the cool factor  LOL

I used my M1 Carbine with paratrooper stock for one of the practice CQB matches. It was a boatload of fun.

Had a lot of "did your grand daddy leave you that" comments, but.. #### 'em.. they dont' know what they are missing.. :D LOL

Only issue with the M1 Carbine is accuracy. But at CQB yardage, even with irons, it's not bad. Don't expect a ton of V-bulls with it, but have fun!

I used mine. The rifle woud have been just fine, except mine stoped cycling. Plugged up gas port, i think.

make sure your mags will lock open on last shot. Some commcercial mags lack this feature.

I believe the modified follower that would hold the bolt open when empty appeared with the 30rd. magazine for the M-2. It has a "square" back end, rather than a round one.
