I would like to be able to feed my norc m14s reloaded .308 to 7.62x51 spec, but first I have to clear up my massive headspace issue.

I have an early undated receiver after doing some reading I looked closer at my bolt. It does not show any signs of peening, but it appears as though only one lug on the bolt is contacting the receiver, there is no wear marks on the other side.

So what can I do with this rifle to be able to reload for it? I'm thinking the simplest is to put a new short chambered barrel into it and chamber it to the bolt that is in the rifle... Any other suggestions? As it is right now I'm happy with the accuracy of the rifle but I don't want to keep feeding it commercial ammo.

Any suggestions? I'm getting a fairly decent stock of ammunition I can't shoot because I want to be able to reuse the brass.

I intend to full length resize, as I will be loading this ammo for more than one rifle, a bolt and my m14 and any future 7.62x51/.308 rifles I add.

i would get some headspace gauges or take it to a gunsmith to make sure the headspace is actually out before you spend unnessesary money on your rifle

Well Laz ran the gauges through it, it closed on both .308 and 7.62x51 no-go gauges plus some feeler gauges.

My brass is about 2.022" in case length.

I would like to get the chamber as tight as i can get away with so I have the least amount of stretching in the brass.

Other than re-barrelling, the only way of tightening up headspace is to swap in a longer bolt. If possible, you should trial fit a number of US GI bolts.

I was originally thinking that, but on closer inspection I notice only one lug is engaging on the bolt. So how do I tell if it is the bolt that is the problem or the receiver?

I've been leaning towards re-barreling to something with a short chamber and getting the chamber cut to match my current bolt, again with the but's but how much lifespan can I expect out of a bolt that is only engaging with one lug?
