So, Les Baer or AT15?

I'm looking at buying a nice, accurate AR15 and the two that I have my eye on are the Les Baer Custom IPSC model and the AT15 from Alberta Tactical. Both will probably end up well north of $3000, with the AT15 probably the more expensive model. Anyone have any first-hand experience with either or both of these models?

The factors I like about the Les Baer include the option to delete the forward assist, the free-float handguard, and the integrated muzzle brake. It also comes with the Versapod as part of the package, while it is an extra on the AT15. Alberta Tactical no longer offers an upper without the forward assist. And their choice of handguards leaves much to be desired. I don't know what it is about the fetish with rails, but I don't need nor want them on my handguard. On the other hand, they do offer cerakoting which means a choice of colours. And of course, they are a Canadian company, so it would be nice to support them. I think Wanstalls sells Les Baer guns, so I think they should be able to order one.

So any opinions?

PS. I already own an old (mid-90s) Olympic Arms Ultramatch, which is pretty accurate but not the best made gun. So that is the reason I'm thinking of these models.

Edit: Pic of the Les Baer.

I got a super varmint Les Baer...Thanks Gene...All the same equipment as your looking at except the barrel...The super varmint has a heavy wieght with no brake.

Accuracy is as advertised even with Federal AE ammo...Handloaded 52 grain SMK's are sick...Honest sub half inch MOA all day long in the calm...You are right about the hand guard, although nothing fancy she rides the bag real nice but if you prefer a bipod the versapod she is fitted with is top notch.

Exceptional fit and finish...Might even be a kinda too tight when new...Need a dowell and a good thump to punch out the pivot pins and the saftey is kinda stiff but I'm working on loosening her up.

The action is the smoothest I have felt although the Noveske and LMT I have are close to being as nice...The Les Baer is as advertised...A solid well built tack driver.

Different species but I have an ATRS custom bolt gun as well, it shoots and is as well made as the Les Baer so I'd bet their AR's are as good too...You get what you pay for.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the Baer right now. Has most of the features that I'm looking for. Just wished they offered other colours. Lastgun, did you order yours from Wanstalls?

I'd go with the Les Bauer. I looked at them a number of years ago. The ATRS has nice options but it's more of a tactical style accuracy rifle rather than a pure out target rifle.

I currently have a Stag 6R. It's a nice rifle especially for the cost. But if you want the top drawer accuracy AR and you're willing to cover the cost then Les Bauer.

This Les Baer was listed here on the Nutz all last winter and I mean all winter...I broke down in April...Think the heavy barrel is what held it up for the masses...I don't regret taking the plunge, the heavy has it's advantages...I'd get another in a lighter wieght version as well if they were more readily available...The Baer exudes quality and precision.

The other high end AR's I shoot are great looking and handling but once you get used to making shots all the way out too 600 yards at will with the Baer, firing Federal AE ammo, it's hard to accept the lesser accuracy of the others...I think key is the precision manufacture as well as the .223 chamber instead of the 5.56...The lighter wieght Baer you talk of with the same accuracy as the heavy super varmint has to be the ultimate all around rifle...Although the heavy will still have better potential for precision because of the wieght...Think I just talked myself into another Les Baer with that lighter barrel.

Although I'm sure ATRS can build one just as good with that .223 chamber...Does ATRS give a half inch MOA accuracy guarantee with their AR Builds?

The Stag 6R has a 1/2 Moa guarantee.

That being said I would suspect the Les Baer to have the greater overall accuracy potential. Plus it's a custom built AR.
