As the title says, my girlfriend wanted pink grips for our 1911...as you can imagine this didn't work for me. So, I made her some carbon fiber grips instead...

She absolutely loves them, and that got me thinking...perhaps I could make more and sell a few. I'm wondering what you all think of the idea...just curious to see if there is a market for it.
They can also be made with a flat finish which gives better grip, and of course infinite custom designs....anyways, curious to see what people think...

Well I see them online for $80 to $100, but after 5 years in the industry I can say that while carbon fiber is expensive, it's not that much...I would think my maximum asking price would be no more than $50. I would be interested to know the general public's opinion as I would not want to be ripping people off...

They look really nice. There are a couple problems with trying to sell them though. You probably aren 't set up to produce them in sufficient volume to go for a low price. (I haven't looked, but I'm certain that some company is making something comparable, and in large enough volumes to undercut your price, whatever they may be). The other problem is marketing them. You could put them in the EE, but that limits your customer base.

However, this does leave you with a viable option; the custom made-to-order market. This would allow you to charge enough to make a bit of money, and your customers could order custom sizes, features and any other options. The other upside is that this will limit the amount of overstock you would have if you couldn't move them. If you can work out the kinks, these would probably make you enough money to feed that deuce-deuce for quite a while. I say go for it.

Well I'm a little lucky in that I can make as many molds as I want at my day job, allowing me to build more than one set at a time, and I can probably pump a set out with only an hour's work (barring any mishaps). But I definitely don't expect to compete with big manufacturing companies, but if I can make enough to pay for my ammo, I'd be pleased. And I would definitely be interested in custom orders...I'm glad to see a couple positive reactions...who knows, maybe this will turn into a fun little side business for me...
Cheers

Well I'm feeling inspired by the positive comments...I think I will make a couple sets and put them on the EE...if anyone reading this post is interested, feel free to PM me...if this takes off I'll also move into other makes and models...maybe a sig p226...
Thanks for the input guys!

my problem with the grips is while they look cool, there is zero grip on them. Also id do a CF/kevlar interweave fabric set, that always looked cool
