Hi, I'm relatively new to reloading, I mainly do .308 and .223, Measured my 308 cases the other day and realized their coming in at 2.015+ i think that's the max recommended length for them? So i figure I should probably get a case trimmer, I'm thinking i'll go with a manual one rather than electric and save some money. Could anyone give me any pointers on what to look for in a trimmer? I was thinking about this one here at Cabelas.

The LEE Cutter and Lock Stud assembly is bar none the most affordable and you just have to purchase the pilots for your chosen calibers. The lock stud fits into your cordless drill with ease and makes the work that much faster.

Great product

The RCBS model will be high quality, you will need shellholder and pilot for cals. you use. You can buy an adapter later that allows you to power up unit with a hand drill.

:agree:

Can't be beat for most common cartridges!

I've tried the RCBS and Forster. I still have the forster. You can get neck turning/reaming accessories for it also.

I started out with and used a Forester for a lot of years. I purchased a 500 S&W and at about the same time I was in the process of upgrading my reloading equipment, so, as my Forester wouldn't 'handle' those cases after a 'look around' I decided on a Lyman Universal. A while back, I bought a Winchester model 71 and getting a pilot for my Lyman did take a while. Most of my equipment is RCBS and that is for two reasons. Their technology is comparable to any but their customer service is second to none.

+1 for lee

I usually buy a new lock stud and cutter so i can just leave the pilots and shell holders set up. That way I can literally just grab the right pilot/cutter and lockstud/shell holder combo and not have to set a thing!

I have an RCBS manual trimmer(kit), and it took me about 50 rounds of .308 to figure out that trimming by hand SUCKS!!!!

I got the 3-way trimmer, and its making life very much nicer. I looked into the RCBS "power drill adapter" and it's a crock, all their adapter kit is is a new allen head bolt with a "wobble" head allen key.

The RCBS trimmer uses a 1/4" 10x32 screw to hold the handle on the spindle. Cost me $1.50 at home depot for a Robertson drill bit and screw, combined with my crappy low speed cordless drill, it works great.

I work with a batch of about 1800 Lapua cases. Trimming by hand would take all winter. I use a Gracey power trimmer. Trim to length, chamfer inside and outside in about 3 seconds each. Works like an electric pencil sharpener.
