Ok I've heard about the dreaded wait times for restricted transfers in Ontario...my situation is, I just bought my first restricted on the EE from a seller in BC (don't know if that will change anything) and I am in the process of getting it transferred to me (Started on 10/29) . Now I'm just wondering:

1) Will I get called to confirm that it has been transferred to me? Or do I have to keep the CFO or the CFC on speed dial and bombard them with calls?

2) How the heck do you guys put up with it? What are some of the things you do to help this move along, I know I used the Shorten PAL Approval Times thread and followed it religiously and got my PAL surprisingly fast...how about this transfer?

I call the Ombudsman....

I can see this could help, but I don't want to just jump to that right away, I'm really looking to gather knowledge on this whole process, whether it is a sit and wait for them to call me, or if by me calling them it could some how speed up the process...ya noob alert

They aren't gonna call you. You need to keep calling back.

Negative. You don't NEED to. You can if you want to, but I'd give it at LEAST a week before you do call back, ESPECIALLY if it's your first restricted.. Generally within 2-3 days of the transfer being approved, they'll mail you a notice saying it's been approved. I wait two weeks, then call. From two weeks, I call every three days.

My advice, learn to be patient. My first restricted took just under 4 weeks to got through.

Was this a transfer FROM an individual or FROM a dealer (Ontario or out-of-province) to you?

Use the time to save up for ammo.

Use the time to write letters to Politicians.

Use the time to get more active with your local politics.

Use the time to read both CSSA and NFA legal stuff, and get memberships to both.

Give it a couple weeks before breaking a sweat. It depends whose desk it lands on.
From a dealer: 2 minutes to 2 weeks
From an individual: 2 hours to 6 weeks
They can delay you 45 days. After 40, call the CFO to inquire.
After that call the CFC, ask not to be transfered to your CFO because you already called them. Inform the CFC of the date of initiation, they will contact your CFO about service standards.

Welcome to Ontario:)

Dealers are faster in turn around time ..well at least so far.

I thought the Ombudsman in Ontario passed the buck to the assistant Commissioner of the OPP as CFO reports to him.

Anyone got info on that.

Funny the old days it was the same day. Bought it went to the police station with receipt, got your ATT to take it to them, then home.

Have the seller call their MP as well. The more complaints the Ont.CFO gets the bigger the problem the system is.

I remember reading a thread here the ombudsman passed the buck but the there was another thread later where the ombudsman as taking responsibility for the CFO. I don't remember what heading it was under.

+1

There was more than one thread I believe. And the buck passing I still suspect is intentional again to make it harder for us to complain.

I just filed with the Ombudsman

It's been more than a month between my passing both CFSC and CRFSC and an email from the CFO Ontario had advised me that it would take between 4-5 weeks (due to the hunting season.)
However, on another thread I've seen that others got their stamped results in two weeks (same Province, not another Planet.)
So I just filed a complaint with the Ontario Ombudsman.

For the info of those CGNers who do not know me, my name is Ahmed (arabic-Egyptian- ethnicity, which also makes me a Moslem.) Could that be why my papers are ....... delayed? Also, FYI, I'm 67; way too old to be a terrorist and I'm not even a good Moslem........V:I:

The Ombudsman's office is only "guilty" of buying the same Ontario-CFO excuses for 6+ months now....;)

By all means, keep contacting the Ontario Ombudsman's office :yingyang: - they seem to take their mandate of apolitical operations seriously enough....

Always like hearing about ethnic shooters.

Makes the "Retarded Racist Gun Shooter" sterotype harder to sell.

Would YOU accept it being said to you in English?

I didn't expect that in this Forum.............

Sorry!! I lived in the middle east for a while and my arab friends would say that to me all the time. I figure it wasn't taken too seriously. I didn't mean to offend... I have removed it.

Than you, Sir

Sorry!! I lived in the middle east for a while and my arab friends would say that to me all the time. I figure it wasn't taken too seriously. I didn't mean to offend... I have removed it.

I appreciate the gesture.
That expression is the absolute worst insult to make to an Arabic-speaker.
I'll PM you its meaning. In my circles, we never used it even in friendship.

Regards
