I've seen a few references to 12(6), for buying prohibited handguns, lately, but I'm not quite sure what it is or how one would go about getting it -- if possible. Could you give me some information? A link to the actual text of the statute would be great. Thanks. :)

dont have the link, but handguns in .32 and .25 caliber, and any handguns with barrels less than 4'' are prohibited by an order in coucil.

individuals who possessed them prior to the ban can keep them, and continue buying them (no new manufactured ones, or new impors though). the rest of us are $hit out luck. if you dont have it, you cant get it. once all the owners die off, thats it, the guns are gone (except pre-45 handguns, which can be inherited, 12.7)

Prohibited firearmsinclude:

* handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm (about 4.14 inches) or less and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific ones used in International Shooting Union competitions;
* rifles and shotguns that have been altered by sawing or other means so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches);
* full automatics;
* converted automatics, namely full automatics that have been altered so that they fire only one projectile when the trigger is squeezed; and
* firearms prohibited by Criminal Code Regulations.

12(6) is about pistol prohibs

they have transfered the prohib and restricted list to the department of justice's website, you can read it here:
