So what's an FN M70 .30-06 FWT with a McMillan Edge stock weigh?

FN? Is that the new name given to Winchesters to make them sound more distinguished or did you forget an apostrophe, as in "f'n" :D

Joking aside, the "Featherweight" has never really been much of a lightweight. A long action Fwt is 7 lbs., short action 6 3/4 lbs and the newer compact 6.5 lbs.
From what I've read, expect to lose about 8 ounces with the EDGE stock.

The McMillan should put its weight close to that of a Beretta T3 ;)

If you went with the Hunter's EDGE pattern, the stock will weigh 22-23oz. Find out what the factory wood stock weighs and subtract the difference.

It's the name given to new Winchesters to distinguish them from push-feed predecessors and predecessors with two-piece floor plates, so I can compare apples to apples.

If you'll excuse me, I have to go and sight in my new Cerebus 1895 Guide Gun after I fix it first. :D

I change the wood stock on my 300 win mag FN fwt with a mcmillan fwt edge and I would say the rifle is atleast 1/2 a pound lighter

I've owned 4 of them as you describe. With aluminum bottom metal scoped they will be right at 7lbs and with steel bottom metal 7lbs 5oz's.

Seriously? Are the new FN FWT stocks made of Balsa cause the FWT stock on my New Haven was 36oz. I would say you will loose at least 10oz going to an EDGE.

Assuming a standard 3-9x40mm or a compact 4x32?

About seven pounds even sounds OK. Heavy enough to quell the recoil with a good pad and light enough to carry all day.

Steel Leupold DD's and a 6X36.

You need PT&G aluminum bottom metal to get there though.

I'm OK with a bit more weight to quell the recoil. Probably leave the factory bottom metal. Going to go the Weaver route in order to play rifle-barbie and change scopes easy.

I even wonder if I should just go with the regular fill in a checkered featherweight pattern stock. Especially for a .30-06.

I wouldn't.

There is not one single person that picks up this rifle and handles it or shoots it that does not want one. It happened again yesterday. I watched a gentleman pick it up, load a shell in the chamber, kneel down on one knee and crack a 6" rock with it at 400 yds from that kneeling position. They balance and handle like a dream.

Like Chuck said, if you go with aluminum bottom metal you are looking at 6 pounds bare. And the balance is phenomenal.

I like M70s, and for me it's hard to imagine a better hunting rifle. I think I have tried most of them, and nothing comes close to any of the fwts in an edge stock.
