Used to McMillan & Manners stocks on 700's but thinking of putting together a sort of cheaper/beater 700 B&G Pre. rifle.

Tossing around idea of the 16.5" AAC-SD. I like the easy ACIS mag/bottom "metal". Far cheaper than a Manners or Mac.

The stock is obviously better than the Hogue that rifle comes with. About the only thing I don't like about the Magul is it seems a bit heavy. It's a little odd looking but can deal with that. Seems like you get a lot for the cost.

So what's the bottom line on these guys ?

I really liked mine. Sold it when I upgraded to an A5. The bedding block is very well done. The DBM upgrade is a must and it works great. It does have a plastic feel to it though. Not much weight on the buttstock either. I found the default cheek piece to be a bit high. If you like your 50mm scope very close to the barrel you will need to find the lowest cheek piece Magpul makes. You have to order that one from them. If you fit a 56mm scope to the default piece it will be about 1/4" from the barrel.

Thanks for the insight RangerPark. Yeah, I figured the DBM is a must have.

I prefer about 44mm objectives and as low as I can get em so thanks for the heads up on that.

I have a 44mm scope on my 700P, the factory installed riser works perfectly for me. The scope is quite low with Burris XTB bases and low or med rings, can't remember which I used. By the sounds of it, RangerPark has a different face profile than mine as I would have to go up to a taller riser with a 50mm scope on mine. I think that will always be an area you need to test and adjust for yourself, everyone is different. As for the stock I rather like it over the HS stock that comes on the 700P. The HS grip sits far to high for my liking, giving the choice of pulling the trigger upwards on an angle or hanging my pinky off the bottom of the grip with the palm swell in an awkward and useless position. The Magpul gets the trigger finger lower for a straighter pull. As for the weight, its only heavy compared to a lightweight hunting stock. Its lighter than many and only a few ounces heavier than the fairly lightweight HS stock. Considering the aluminum bedding block and bulkier build I think the weight comes in on the lighter side for a tactical stock. The DBM is a good value that works well with Magpul and aftermarket AI mags. The forend is sturdy, not chassis solid but nothing you'd call flimsy. Again, full length bedding block. The recoil pad works well and mounts to the shoulder very securely. Its not terribly tacky but the ribs and concave shape help keep it in place, something I appreciate. Overall for the money its a great value. It blows any hollow synthetic factory stock out of the water and checks a lot of precision stock "must haves" off. Its no Mcmillan but its not in the same price range either. I think its an excellent stepping stone for a novice looking to upgrade from a flimsy hollow synthetic stock and something even a seasoned shooter can get behind without feeling too cheap.

I agree with the above. It's great value for the coat. I have one on a 700p and one on a 10/22. Buy the extra risers and you're good to go.
I like magpul quality. It's not top shelf but it works and I've yet to break any magpul gear on ARs, shotguns or rifles. So the plastics they use must be half decent.

Really cost effective way of getting an adjustable stock with a detachable magazine system. My barrelled action shoots well installed in the MagPul.
I found that I had to make a slight alteration to the feed ramp of the receiver. The inside front wall of the magazine was in front of the edge of the feed opening in the receiver; had to make a little notch with the Dremel so that the bullet tips would clear. Same thing with a PT&G unit in another rifle.
I would prefer a lower comb option.

That's right, I forgot about removing some metal from the feed ramp under the front of the magazine. A must if you're running 2.950" Accurate Mags like I was. Easy and good looking job with a steady hand and a Dremel. I'm also curious about the long action version. Might fiddle with one for my next long range build.

I did the same when I inletted my HS for an Atlasworx dbm. Just a small notch blended into the feed ramp. With Accurate mags I can seat 178 Hornadys .030 off the lands and still feed from the mag. I haven't checked if the Magpul mag requires the clearance, I'm geussing not since it only allows a 2.800 OAL and needs to be plug n play.
