So... what's the deal with piston driven Rugers?

I bought one used a while ago and have run the snot out of it. It keeps ticking and has been a great rifle at an alright price point. But why are they so scarce? Do people just not buy them or is there a reason they're not in the country? It's kind of baffling me. Also, is there a reason I missed as to why the takedown model hasn't shown up?
 
They got quite the buzz when they first landed. They were cheaper than say a PWS. I hefted one and it was pretty pretty front end heavy and hefty overall. There were reports of carrier tilt as well as KiddX mentioned but not sure if the newer versions corrected it. Then the non-piston one came out and the piston model just fizzled out.
 
The carrier tilt issue was solved fairly early on, by increasing the "pad" area on the BCG, and rounding the end profile more. I didn't like mine due to the combination of heavy profile barrel and heavier gas block. It would have made a good bench gun, as long as you like your bench guns with 16 inch barrels and a large weight on the end. It didn't help that you couldn't really do anything about it - short of throwing another grand at it for a new barrel - from scratch. The gas system length isn't standard, so you'd have to deal with that too. Add to that the fact that the hand guard was also proprietary, and you have limited ways of fixing the weight issue.
 
From my understanding, they are an excellent rifle - but heavy - and a bit expensive for what you get and for what else is out there. I still think they are worth a look at the right price if a person wants a piston AR. If AR's were non-restricted, they would definitely be a viable option.
