With the M14 Doc retired I am wondering who to send an M14 to now for the same quality of worksmanship? I am thinking trigger job, tig weld and unitized the gas system, headspace check and thread and install a new muzzle break.

I know there are clinics offered to learn the in's and out's of the gun which I would like to take in, but that isn't what I am looking for. I am looking for someone that REALLY knows how to tune these up.

Go to one of Tactical Teacher/Barney's clinics. I went to one of the days of his Dundurn clinic's and it was excellent. If you take part in one of his clinics, he also will offer to install a barrell/bolt for you if you send to him after the clinic for a steak dinner or a case of beer. His therapy during the school year!!! I highly recommend it as you will be able to do almost all of the work on any future M14's you purchase. I wouldn't install a barrel/bolt, but I would unitize my gun, install any flash hider, tighten up my own guns from this point forward.

Sorry guys, I know a lot of guys are feelin the same since I retired (m14doc ;) )
I haven't handled his work but doug at epps in ontario, I've heard and seen/shot excellent work by Casey at Tac Ord.... There's a handful of guys that do this professionally and a lesser amount of them I'd trust with my rifle ;)
I'd also echo the sentiment that taking in a Tactical Teacher clinic is time well spent for any m14 enthusiast, experienced owner or new.

Ah, you want to buy a fish, not buy a pole and learn to fish :)

Lets just say, I would rather rake the ocean floors with nets, than worry about the one minnow that escaped notice. Why let the entire cargo spoil over the one aspect I have no real intention of gaining?

On a side note, I do enjoy refinishing my own stocks and bluing rifles - duracoat coming soon - It's the minor tweeks that don't overly excite me.

Damned straight! I have witnessed enough TV fiction, to KNOW that the 'teacher' is responsible for grooming his successor. Way to let everyone down.

Any who.. is there anyoneone you would recommend in BC ACP/m14doc? My requirements run the same as 'the judge' for criteria.

Hmmmmm fishin.... I fish more than I shoot ;) sundays are mandatory fishin days for me. I'm fortunate enough to live smak in the middle of the best rainbow and kokanee fishin in BC. 1/2 hour drive in any direction :D
And when I'm lazy.... The creek out back has some good fishin if yer patient
I've taught guys to build fishin rods, tie trout flies, cast flylines, fish for salmon and hali's but sadly, other than clinics.... I have not taught a successor for my m14 smithin. I also live where being accessible to train someone isn't really doable for a would be apprentice.
There's no one in BC that I can recommend for M1A specific work that also has indepth knowledge of the variables at play when working on norincos.
I don't make that last comment to cause waves or be negative about BC gunsmiths so it should not be perceived as such.

Maybe I should try that 'friend' of yours, from our last conversation cou:. Seems like he's always being ''resurrected'' in the forums anyways ;) Just kidding. Is it petty if I wish those streams of yours found themselves without fish - and you needing a new pastime?

I dropped a rifle off at Casey a week ago with no reservations at all, I could see by all his metal working
machines that he has the ability to build any gun from a pile of metal, impressive outfit, very nice
man to deal with and I got the impression he has been doing this for decades. He has just built a new building (800-1000 square feet) to house all his metal working machines and the attention to detail of this industrial
grade building is impressive. (I worked as a carpenter for 7 years renovating high end homes and I have a eye
for fit and finish)
