I just thought I'd pass on some info about a great site in Canada. For those of you in the market for binoculars look up Binoculars Canada. Great service and the best cdn dollar prices I could find for the item I bought.

are there anny binos made in Kanuckistan?

Newcon (www.newcon-optik.com) are the only ones I know of. They do mostly rangefinders and night-vision gear - the RCMP uses them- but there are a couple of wide-angle binoculars as well. The range-finding binos a local RCMP chap had (around $1,000 in case you were about to ask) were marked "Made in Canada" although they are more likely assembled in Canada from outsourced parts.

I'd have to guess, there are no optics made on the North American continent!!
If there were, could we afford them???

Absolutely !!!
The highest paid skilled workforce in the world resides in ... Germany.
Look at the Conquest line of scopes that Zeiss started assembling in the US. The price dropped a lot.
Can you imagine how much would it have dropped if the lenses were also made here?

Or maybe not. Some things are just better left for the best.

I had a gen1 nv unit from Newcon, it sucked. If there binos are anything like that, I'd stay away.

For binos, nothing beats steiners -but you will have to pay some $$$. I'd sell my kidney before I sold my steiners.

Apparently, Daves is now carrying them. (No, I don't get paid to push them).

I bought a pair of 10x42 Nikon Monarch's. Sure there's better but these are great, and for around $400 delivered a pretty good deal to. I would have bought local but for another $100 plus, the differance paid for my E-trex gps unit!!
