....and you forgot your ammo!!! Now your screwed because you shoot a (insert caliber here). Know what? you should of bought a 30/06, cause you can buy ammo anywhere!"

LMAO...I here this argument for cartridge choice ALL the time, so my question is: Has this really ever happened to anybody?

I mean, c'mon......who doesn't pack extra ammo/back-up gun/ammo when travelling a long distance to hunt?

Never happend to me.
I have also heard the one "dont buy a DM cuase you have a greater chance of forgetting the clip".
Its all nonsense. You can forget just about any piece of kit from time to time, but I am sure 95% of us have never forgotten our ammo or toilet paper.

I know a fella that brought the WRONG ammo!!
He had ttwo 308's and a 7/08, took the 7 hunting and brought along 150 GRAIN 308'S.!:(
Not a happy camper, had to borrow a .303 truck gun from one of thee guys.

I cannot buy most of my ammo at a store anyway......

One of our guys forgot the bolt for his very nice Sako 308... (I guess they shouldnt make them detachable) He got the opportunity to use my very nice, 60$, back-up Lee Enfield.

I'll admit it. Brought the wrong ammo - once. :(

Picked the bullet out ouf the MTM case to feed my Marlin and instantly realized that the bullet looked a little big for 30-30. I brought 30-'06 instead of 30-30.

It took me about two hours and 150 kms to get 30-30 because the local stores had every caliber but....

I still can not believe that I did it.

Not having the correct ammo, enough ammo or the right mags will never happen again.

Now driving all the way to the range and forgetting my keys......

Hasn't happened to me in over 25 yrs of hunting. A lot of those were wildcats or not too common calibers. I generally make a list, guess whats at the top. If you arrive in the bush, unload your gear and find no ammo you just might be a ..... f..king conehead.

I have ran out of ammo while hunting(only took 4 with me...don't ask)...flagged someone down on a woods road and asked them if they had any ammo to spare. Luckly it was 30-06 I was using.

That being said, when going hunting my rifle is the priority. I make sure I have everything for it and everything works fine. Gear on the otherhand gets forgotten all the time.

My previous post may have been a bit harsh as I just remembered getting off the boat up the Musqua hunting Elk only to find my compressed loads of Rel 15 had pushed the 300 X bullets too far forward to fit my mag. No probem though I just reseated them with a hatchet! Worked fine and I got my Elk at about 175 yds.

Me and my wife had browning bps shotguns... One day I grabbed her 20 gauge and didn't realize it till I was out rabbit hunting with the boys and tried to put a 12 gauge shotshell into a 20 gauge... ha ha ha... I instantly became the audience...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Never say never...

I went on a weekend bear trip once and forgot my 7mm. I remembered the ammo though :D  Had to use a 30-30 lever for a couple days :(

I had a client loose the clip to his rifle while on a hunt. it's not all nonsense.

So let me get this straigth- I am goign to get on a horse, ride for a day and a half into the bush, arrive at base camp, realize I forogt my ammo and say "####! I shoudl have brought a 30-06"

I've gone bird hunting for a day and forgot shells. I drove about an hour out of town, downloaded the quad, reached inthe pocket of my pack only to find rifle shells but no 20 guage. Travelling a long distance, I always bring a backup rifle and three of the last five hunts, somebody used it for one reason or another.

I've got too many reloads to keep track of. Let's say I have three 308's all with it's own load, to avoid confusion I take a pice of paper, a black marker and write *308 for Winchester M70* on the ammo case. Then tape it on there real good with clear packing tape. That way I don't bring the wrorng ammo in the right calliber.

met my dad out hunting one time, he packed the guns, opened the cases and oops one 7mm mag one 308 all we had was 7mm mag ammo.

lucky for us another hunter there using a 300mag had half a box of 308 silvertips that he gave us. I think we got a moose that day too

the glove box of my truck normally has 3 or 4 different center fire and there is normally a few boxes of .22 and 12 gauge behind the seat.

I have lost a mag in the field once good, thing I was done for the day. I have also borrowed a buddys gun and forgot his trigger lock key good thing it was only his 10/22 to plink with.

But ammo, I am paranoid about that tags, gun, ammo and TP are the first things pack. I have stopped at the end of the street just to make sure numerous times.
