Just curious what happens to a succesfully hunted predator ? Obviously Keep the pelt and utilize it somehow ( rug, hat, etc) what about the meat ? The bones and entrails ? Where does all that stuff go?

Thanks

I ground up the bear meat and the wife throws it in her spaghetti sauce , cook the bones and throw them to my dog. and take the skull and bleach it for display.

Wolf, Coyote I used to give them to a guy at work... So dont know what happened... lol...

wolves and coyotes are used for hides only.... carcasses stay in the bush or are used for bait... Bears are eaten in the same way as a deer or moose.

Bears are good to eat - would rather bear than moose or deer - so all that goes in the freezer.

(and in Ontario you are breaking the law if you kill a bear while hunting and allow the meat to spoil/go to waste - in Ontario a bear is a "game animal", not a pest, predator or fur bearing animal as far as the game laws go)

Wolves/Coyotes - take the hide and leave the rest as a "bait pile" for more predators.

I tried "dog" when I was in Korea - not in a big rush to eat that again - one thing if you are lost in the woods and starving...

Black bear makes some great sausage.
Rug and skull if that's your thing too.

Coyotes i skin out and toss the rest.
Wolves the same.

Don't shoot a bear if you don't plan on eating it..... Prepared right I would take it over beef any day of the week.....

As for wolf and coyote, befriend an Asian that would eat a cannid as part of their culture and give them the carcass or use as bait..... I personally give mine to a guy that does hides.... He gives me a small payback later.....

My best friend is Chinese.
I did eat some coyote he popped many years ago.
Not terrible, but not good either...

Yeah I won't eat coyote or wolf unless the need arises. Thankfully it hasn't happened.....yet lol. Bear is good to go though I don't eat it as much since the mother-in-law passed away. We both enjoyed the flavor. The wife and kids like a lot of game but they are not big on bear. That being said they never tried bear sausage so I may very well have to harvest one this year and introduce them to it.

I think we get $25 per coyote carcass from Wildlife but we have no coyotes up this way thanks in part to our healthy wolf population.

I have a trappers license but only use it to remove nuisance animals and move carcasses....... Buddy gives me likely 20% of what they are worth, but he does all of the work and deserves it.....

In turn, I get to be in the outdoors doing what I love and gain experience...... It's win win for me....
