Hey Musky,

Do you know who is using the Eotech on theirs?

I'm in the process of building a Scout and I would like to hear of experience with the Eotech on the M14. I run one on my AR and used one at work and they are an awesome sight... better than just a red dot in my humble opinion.

I mounted an Eotech on my M14 with an ARMS mount. The Eotech is quite wide and the ARMS mount quite low. I haven't shot it like that yet but I wouldn't be surprised if shells hit the Eotech on the way out. Will have to give it a try next time at the range.

Gunslinger,
I managed to find a Springfield Scout mount so I'll be mounting it on that. On my C8 (at work) and on my 10.5" AR, I was running my Eotech just forward of the receiver (More mid length too). I really don't like the Eotech close to my face.... The sight picture just seems weird when it is. Now it's time to try it on my personal M14!;)

Oh yeah, the Springfield mount doesn't have the sharpest cuts for the mount and I think that I would go with a Rooster mount if I was going to do it again (I would just prefer a bit longer Rooster mount). All of his stuff is awesome!

Let me know how shooting your's goes!:)

here is one...with an aimpoint?

Tritium, I'm going to let an idea out of the bag I've had for a while in the hopes someone tries it out. I was thinking of this for a real low drag - high speed setup, go ahead steal my idea I just want to see it done.

Make a custom mount (Rooster you listening!) like this as low as possible and overhanging more to the rear of the clip guide so that it's out of the way of extracting shells,

with integral "wings" to protect the sight like this,

and mount one of these to it,

I would do it but it's not in my budget this year, already spent (and still spending) too much on other toys, but this has been in the back of my head for a while. Someone DO IT!

And yes the Rooster scout mount looks like it's built like a brick ####-house. Eotech up front seems fine it's just so friggin wide, send a pic when you're done. I'll see how it works with my ARMS and let you know. I don't prefer a red dot that far back on an M14 but I have a ARMS so it's kind of make do until I get a scout built. Damn I just love M14's, makes you smile everytime you shoot them.

Now that looks like a good idea... I especially like the protective ears around the Docter.:)

Just a thought but are you running the older or newer style ARMS? I have the newer one (which is the full length rail over the ejection port) on my other M14 and I haven't encountered any problems with brass hitting it or failures to eject. I think Skullboy once posted that such fails to eject were due to a weak extractor spring (I could be wrong).

Once my rifle is done I'll post some pics... should only be a couple more weeks.

I have the newer ARMS, the only thing that happens is once in a while (say 1 in 200) rounds I have a shell hang up between the op rod and the bottom of the #22 ring, must grindthe corner off.

Here are pics with the Eotech. Can't mount it any further back without grinding down the rear bits of the clip guide (1/16th or so should do it) because they hit the bottom on the Eotech (see lines).

I think we just hijacked this thread. I appologise SS109, that'll be the end of this fork in the road

No problems with the hijack. Musky Hunter, what mod. is the sight in the pic you posted? Thanks all. ss109

Played with one today. Seems & feels nice but are they accurate?
Ah yes, the other thing...The restricted clause on it, is a turn off...

While not relating to a SOCOM (wanted one for the longest time, but could not swallow the restricted pill), I've been playing with a Dr. Optic Military (3.5MOA dot) on my 18.5 inch barreled M1A for just over a year now...I love it. I did all my hunting with it this year, cleanly taking deer between from 15 to 200 yards with no problems.

Brobee, I'm sure you are scrupulously legal at all times, and I don't know where you hunt; but I think the rest of us should probably not mout a light on our hunting rifles.
My quick glance at the BC hunting regs mentions that using a light is illegal, it doesn't seem to mention anything about only at night.

Anyone on the board own one? The spring field one. How does it shoot? What optics are you running? Thanks.

I want to get one, but waiting until we get this restricted / non-restricted thing sorted out with the new gov't.

The sooner we hear what their plan is the better.

can't wait

Brobee,
Can you shed alittle more info on the optic you mention? Is there a link or somewhere to go to for more info? Thanks.

Edit: Never mind. I think I found it under a search for 'Doctor Optic', about $350 USD. Correct?
