It's Docter Optic. Another version is the JPoint at www.jprifles.com The Docter sight is made a lot better, steel and glass as oposed to plastics. Brobee you have the military version, what is the difference, I just can't see how it would cost double, what makes it tougher ect that you can see?

Cant find the pics in the gun mags....what are they running on the Socom for optic sights? Looked like the aimpoint? Any one no make or modell? Thanks.
 
ss109: About the only differences I can tell between the standard and the military model is that the military has a glass window (they call it sapphire in their advertising material...it is visible on the photograph below) that protects the emitter slot from getting clogged with dirt, snow or other sh*t. This has proven important to me, as my earlier regular version Dr. got clogged numberous times with snow and was rendered useless (thus the modification via addition of the large knob for easy detachment). I hunted hard all season long with the military verion and purposly tried several times to foul it the same way...you just have to wipe the snow out and you are good to go. Also, the military version has a gasket that makes the sight waterproof (to what depth I don't know). The dot in the military is also brighter as compared to the standard (tested both with new batteries).

Splatter: just checked the regulations for alberta: hunting employing light is also illegal here. Unfortunately, it is worded such that it seems vauge with respect to what the rules are for having one on your person while hunting. Will likely take the light off the gun for next season, but it for sure go into my pocket as I won't go out into the bush without a flashlight on my person. I would hope that unless a guy was busted hunting at night while using the light, the spirit of the law would prevail. Better to be safe than sorry I guess though....

I worked on a member's SOCOM a few weeks ago, and IMHO, they are NOT worth the money S.A. wants for them, plus they are restricted firearms (this won't fact won't change due to barrel length).

This SOCOM had problems blowing out the extractor after 50 to 80 rounds.It looked like someone "bubba'd" the extractor to fit as the rear of the extractor had no parkerising on it due to filing/sanding!!!:eek:

Swapping in and fit/headspaced a new TRW bolt and it was good to go.

Most of the Current S.A. parts are cast and/or subcontracted off-shore.

I'll stick with my custom 18.5" Norinco SOCOM "clone".Lot cheaper, more reliable and more accurate!!!!.
