I pack my AI/AT in a Pelican long case. Looking for a soft padded case to store rifle in , for protecting the rifle from the other ruffian rifles in my safe. Looking for practical protection not tacticool with shoulder straps, mag pouches etc. Suggestions sources appreciated.

Thanks!

How about a gun sock? Should be more form fitting to take up a lot less space in the safe and would offer enough protection to prevent most minor dings and handling damage in a safe.

Thanks, but I want significantly more protection and I've never seen a gun sock that would fit over an AI/AT with bipod and large scope. The scope alone costs more than 5 or 6 of the rifles( value of all of them) it shares the safe with!

How long is it? I have a fairly cheap case from Cabelas. Have to take the brake off for it to fit well, but it does the job (50" I think). Made to accommodate the rifle, scope, and bipod. Just not sure how it's going to stand up in the long run, if it lasts, another bang for buck win.

Is your AI made out of glass?

I really don't understand why you are so worried about damaging an AI while it's sitting immobile in a safe.

My favourite soft case by far is the Eberlestock Sniper Sled.....it has the backpack harness and a few outside pouches but it all comes off (MOLLE) if you don’t want it for your specific purpose.. Its a little pricey, but so is your rifle...

^^^THIS^^^ I was wondering myself why you feel the need to put a rifle, any rifle in a soft case while it's in a safe.

The ones thrown out of helicopters are bought by governments, afraid I had to pay cash for mine. I don't mind getting it dirty and scuffed from playing with it but I'd rather not bash my $$$$ scope and rifle by having my old Mosin's accidentally fall over on it as I rummage through the safe looking for something. I don't have a fancy safe with rifle holders etc, they are stacked in there pretty tight, some with gunsocks some with out.Gunsocks take space and I don't trust them rust wise here on the wet coast. And yes I do use dehumidifiers. Anyway thanks for the information.

You have the right idea, why bang it up for no good reason?

Military Rifles ARE NOT INDESTRUCTABLE...I'm not sure where guys get this impression. The Airborne Regt. wasn't issued C7's for a bit because we had no way of protecting them while jumping. I've seen a few C1's get messed up too. They may be tougher than most. but believe me you can break them. Seems to me a cheap case to give it that extra protection when not in use is money well spent.

Personally I think you are babying your gun too much. Scopes and rifles are much more durable than you would think, especially the quality ones.

That said, hope you find what you are looking for. Not sure exactly what product that would be. Good luck.

AIs actually become so tough because they fight other rifles.

I would be more concerned for your other guns that share your safe with the AI.

In all seriousness though you could probably get a neoprene scope over to protect that and then a gun sock for the minor scuffs.

I would be looking to solve the real problem and get a better/bigger safe. Once you add a soft case to the AI it's going to be bigger and everything else will be even tighter in your safe. Not sure I follow though as you say gun socks take up space too...

Thanks guys, redshooter gave me the info I need. I already have several safes. getting another one is not an option as she who must be obeyed has said enough is enough. need more room? , she says "well sell one of your damn guns". Nearing retirement so down sizing not upsizing.

Thanks for the comments, have a great week and go shooting!

Got the case you recommended and it fills the bill perfectly and can do double duty in hunting camp. AI now crammed in my over full vault with no worries about "safe kisses" from my Mosin 38 truck gun or Norinco m305 308 blasters . Thanks for the heads up!
p.s. I don't baby my "guns" I prefer to put wear on them not gouges and scrapes and metal damage because of carelessness or my clumsiness.

Glad to help, I have to agree, I don't see the point in needlessly banging up my gear. I'm enough of a Spaz on my own, I don't need to invite damage.
