Soft Norinco Reciever?

Recievers can be over hard or over soft, hard one crack and soft one stretch. Norinco tend to make thing on the softer side and this is safe as you will not get sudden catastrophic failure. The issue with a soft reciever is it will stretch over many rounds and the head space will increase to an unsafe distance. However I donot think you have too much to be concerned about as the softness issue with M14 clones was the bolt and not the reciever. The recievers were generally good and I understand the bolt softness issue has been resolved by Norinco. If you do have concerns, get yourself a 7.62NATO (not .308) No-go gauge and test the head space 100 rounds. If the head space goes over spec (bolt closes on the No-go guage) stop using the rifle and take it to a gunsmith. If you have a problem its more likely to be the bolt than the reciever.

That's probably the best option. I'll see if I can get a set of GO/NO GO gauges, does Brownell's still ship to Canada?

I still find it strange however that the file catches so easily, oh well.

Guns with aluminum receivers have bolts lugs which lock into the barrel, not the receiver (AR15, XCR, etc).

An m14's locking lugs are in the receiver and are high stress areas which would be worn down quickly if the steel is not properly hardened (quickly causing excessive head space).

I have shotguns and pistols with alum action/frame. The slide/bolt ram the end like crazy....
