I recently won an auction lot for a stack of old Soldier of Fortune magazines and found a particular article that some of you Type 81 owners might me interested in.

Maybe TI can get us some of those conical flash hiders for our t81 lmg

That would be great. Authentic parts are the way to go if we can get them.. and the article states 3-4 MOA accuracy in semi-auto, that's exactly what I get from the rifle.

good find.

how did SOF got them to open the bamboo curtain and reveal a new gun? back then you would be shot for taking a pic of the factory a mile away, lol.

By invitation haha. I know Soldier of Fortune gets made fun of a lot, but back in the day they had some pretty good journalism (albeit probably sensationalized) and we’re able to send people into places most mainstream media couldn’t. And they even started the whole 3 gun competition.

Really? two years later they shot the protesters on Tiananmen square.

China's slinky-spring of repression and relaxation is unpredictable. It depends on the government leader and his statements. The rest of the country tries to adjust, without getting itself into trouble. When my mother taught in PRC, there were rules about what to never talk about, but they wanted Western English teachers just the same.

Thanks for the good read. It is interesting to see how Soviet Union and China solved the problems with the initial AK-47 design. AKM and AK-74 on one side and Type 81 and QBZ-03 on the other side :)

it was good they had a rivalry otherwise we wouldnt have had the T81.
