Looks like I might be alone this hunting season gets as our moose plans are slowly falling through.

Anyone have any suggestions on a guided hunting trip 1 on 1 for less than $3k not including airfare somewhere in North America?

I'm not interested in a trophy. It needs to be a meat animal that I can bring much of back with me to Ontario (Pearson). I can do air fare through points. I'd like it to be as free range as possible and preferably not white tailed deer as I plan to hunt them in my backyard. Also don't eat bear so that one is out.

Would love to go to Newfoundland. Have a buddy from there as well who grew up moose hunting with his dad and cousin. Sadly I've never found a hunt of any sort in Nfld. that is guided and much short of $6k. Even sadder, my buddy's dad and uncle who still hunt moose there would love to take us out but the regulations do not allow out of province hunters without a guide.

Get them to look into what it would take to get a guidings licence.
If it is as simple as buying a licence.........?

Good luck on under $3000 for a 1-1 guided moose trip. Maybe on a very last minute cancellation but I doubt it....most are $6000+ for 1-1.

I would say, take the $3000 and buy a wall tent and camp supplies and go in your own province.

That still won't get him a non resident moose license.

OP, I think you're stuck with pronghorn or maybe a low priced mule deer hunt in Wyoming or Montana. You can fly that meat back, though there won't nearly as much as a moose!

there is still some places in Canada where you don't need a guide for moose hunting and you can buy over the counter the tag. you must be two at least and of course be ready to find locals not very friendly ...

Are you up for gopher meat ?

Ouch! Would be much easier if I was into varmint hunting as there are coyote's and foxes in the forest on my farm.
I plan to deer hunt back there with a crossbow. Got my stand all setup; planning to do my food plot tomorrow.

Sounds like opportunities for a guided hunt are limited with a $3k budget. So far it is looking like either cow Elk or Pronghorn. I've heard Elk meat is better so thats currently looking like my best option. Getting my buddies together tomorrow to see if we can still keep our plans for moose intact.

After a bunch of digging, I have to say, a cull hunt in Africa isn't looking so bad after all!

Get your buddies to get their guiding license.
They must have: Proof of successful completion of a firearms safety/hunter education course. Proof of successful completion of a recognized boat safety course. A valid emergency first aid course. Print off an application on line, fill it out with 10 bucks, and send it off. Not sure how long it would take to get the guide licence back.

As far as I know he would still need to book through an outfitter to obtain a non resident moose license in Nfld, so the whole guide license thing for his friends won't help any.

Some provinces, like Manitoba, have a three tiered license system; Resident, non resident Canadian and foreign resident. For some species, non resident Canadians can buy over the counter tags and don't need a guide/outfitter, but generally, if you're not familiar with the area, your chances are pretty slim.
