I had picked up some of those completely ####less 7 round blued "colt 45 auto" stamped mags for $10 a piece when a dealer was selling them off, never worked for #### even after smoothing out all the knife edges on the mags and followers. Also ended up with a few of the nickel 8 round "shooting star" mags that were also complete crap. When I say ####less and crap, I mean they would not feed, or hold the slide open....like useless. But that's what I get for cheaping out I guess!
Anyway, gave some of these Wilson conversion kits a go, and the mags run like champs now...ordered the "colt" versions for $8 it was worth it to me to make the mags functional. Not like I could have sold them, and didn't really want to trash them. http://www.brownells.com/magazines/handgun-magazines/magazine-parts/magazine-hardware/wilson-magazine-conversion-kits-prod24743.aspx
The spring is nice and stiff, and 8 rounds fit easily into the mags...and best of all they work.

Good info, thanks for sharing it.

I've got a "Colt .45 Auto" marked generic mag that could use one of these kits. [It came with a rounded follower that binds inside the mag tube].

I know which dealer you are talking about. They advertised them as "Colt" 45ACP mags and everyone bought them got ripped off. Good to know that the WC conversion kits work. Myself, I would have scrapped them out for original Colt factory mags or went with the Wilson Combat 47D's.
