Hey CGN,

I've got a Beretta 92A1 that's been experiencing light primer strikes during IPSC matches while using factory ammo (Winchester 9mm 115gr FMJ). The only modifications I've done to the gun are changing to the Beretta Hammer D trigger spring and the stock hammer to the hammer elite. I did these modifications in late June-ish and have shot 6 matches since then. The problems started Nov 11 at Silverdale (outdoor) and yesterday at Wentworth (indoor). I had about 4 or 5 misfires/light strikes at the outdoor match, then traded some ammo with my buddy and finished the match. He shot my ammo yesterday through his 92FS without a problem. What's the process I should go about figuring out my issues?

I'm thinking something like; try a bunch of diff ammo, change back the hammer and spring, change firing pin.

Have you guys experienced anything like this before? Any insight on the problem? I don't think it could be the hammer and spring as I've heard many people do these mods to help with the trigger pull, but I could be wrong.

Thanks.

UPDATE
I changed the firing pin spring (it's a pain in the ass to do) and I haven't had any light strikes. But I only competed in 1 IPSC match since the change. I got the spring from Stoeger Canada in Whitby.

i think winchester primers have a reputation of being rather hard...i would try different ammo to see if that helps.

if the problem persists i would change back things one at a time. start with the easier things first like the hammer...then the spring if the hammer doesn't help, and change back to the d spring.

i have the exact same setup on my 92fs and it has set off everything i've thrown at it (about 500 rounds this year), but i don't use it for competition...

good luck and let us know.

Federal primers are more likely to go off with a lighter hit so you might want to try them instead of Winchesters also.

I use it for competition, but it's not any harder than what anyone would use at the range. I only really shoot matches.

It's factory ammo. And plus, the 92fs and a1 are pretty much identical, so it should be able to strike every time. The gun is fairly new, I got it last August.
