Solvent to clean choke tubes

First time I used this stuff it took me 20minutes to clean out all the plastic that came loose out of the forcing cones.

choke cleaner

There is no question that the Shooter's Choice choke cleaner is awesome. When I first got the 12 barrels for my Krieghoff I was completely frustrated with breaks I was getting. I bought a bottle of the choke cleaner, followed the instructions and pushed about a handful of plastic out of the chokes - GROSS! The only problem you are going to find is that you CAN't get this stuff in Canada anymore. Apparently there is a battle between U.S. manufacturers complying with Canadian laws detailing the chemicals on the cans so it's not allowed in Canada. Unless things have changed in the last several months you are going to have a hard time..........

Just found a can containing perchloroethylene and trichloroethylene at CDN Tire.

Best of both worlds!

There were other chlorinated brake cleaners that either contained perclene or trichloroethylene.

I'll report ambient temperature cleaning results. If that fails, warming the solvent a bit might be necessary.

oh ya, TCM (trichloromethane) family of chemicals is not flammable, but bad for your liver, use well ventilated, use gloves! you dont need to warm it, if it doesnt work at room temp, it wont work warm. If not, try another solvent.

Believe it or not, good ol' WD-40. Removes gunk and dissolves plastic fowling.

I use it on the chokes and down the barrels. Let it sit for a bit, brass brush if needed, run your patches through then your favorite oil lube.

Non chlorine break cleaner is great for the chokes to blast the WD-40 and gunk off after.

I got that tip on shotgunworld and was amazed how well it works.

i plow FLATS of ammo through my O/U and just run a few patches through it with Hoppes Bore gel as soon as i get home, no build up,, ever.

I used some hopes number #9 solvent to clean 'em and some breakfree clp to clean/lube. seemed to work just fine for me...
