Are the green tag CCIs any better or worse? I drive by the 2 cabelas in edmonton at least once a week each but I'm not sure which ones to order. Any help would be appreciated
If you're shooting a semi, the Green Tag ammo might not cycle it. They're subsonic, albeit just barely. They work fine in my 10/22 but a friends Rem 597 and GSG 22lr 1911 wouldn't cycle with anything under ~1200fps.
The Green Tag is more expensive and the price doesn't translate to accuracy in any of my rifles (yours might be different).
I have a target grade Russian 22lr rifle and Green Tag ammo shoots fairly well in it. Seems to prefer RWS or Eley over anything CCI.
I pay $4-5/50 for practice grade target ammo; regularly puts 5 shots into .5" at 50yds.
If I buy match grade ammo for $8-12/50 and the conditions are ideal and I do my part I've shot several .25" groups.
CCI Green Tag in the same rifle are usually around .5" but are $15/100 last time I bought some; Cabela's wants $20/100 now. That puts them up at the same cost as match ammo but only delivering practice ammo accuracy. Really not worth it if you have access to better options.
CCI makes great ammo and some of the most accurate plinking grade ammo out there. I've just never been impressed with some of their more premium offerings. Stingers shoot patterns, not groups, in my 10/22 and Cooey. Can't use them in my target rifle since it has a match chamber that doesn't fit the longer cases. I've tried their Select ammo which is meant for competition and same story as Green Tag.
Their Standard Velocity ammo is great stuff, so are Mini Mags, and I've had some luck with Velocitors. I'm just not impressed with Green Tag or Stingers; especially for the price.
