nice bear.I realy wish i could have found someone to go with this year but it is looking doubtfull.what did she shoot it with?did they weigh it or take a tape to the skull yet?

Her rifle is a Model 7 in .260 Remington shooting a 140 grain Speer.

The skull green is 19 1/4". Hopefully it doesn't shrink too much and makes the BC Book.

The chest girth measurement indicated a live weight of almost 400 pounds which means he would have been close to 1/4 ton when he denned up last fall.

The front pads are just under 6" wide with some of the longest claws I have seen on a black bear.

The hide laying loose measures 6'-8" squared.

His muzzle and head were totally covered with scars from old battles.

All in all a very nice bear.

Look at that, he's already rehearsing his pose as a bear skin rug. :D

Good job getting the next generation so hooked on hunting 'Boo!

So true! The bear had been gutted before that picture was taken. When they rolled him over to drain out the cavity it did look like he was rehearsing for his role as a rug.

Awesome bear Gary, congratulations to the hunter. Are you getting out to chase any bruins this year?

Not yet. It is so damn busy at work that I am down to taking off every second Saturday. As of yesterday afternoon I was "only" 3 weeks behind. The chores at home seem to be taking up the rest of my time.

I do want to get out before the end of the month and see what is around.
Are you going to be able to make it out this way come fall? The first part of November is the best part of the rut but anytime from the 15th of Sept on would work.

Sweet bear - pass on my congrats!

Any story of the hunt to go with it for those of us still waiting to get out?
