No its not Illegal, some friends have had Dingoes for many years and there certainly not a common pet although they are out there! these ones are real old so they are trying to get ahold of some pups from the few others who have them as pets.. must be some permit involved.

Yo i hear you on the Dingo, im not sure if i mentioned here but i was in 2 minds about it although my friends family sheep farm was 200m away so i saved them around 100 newborn lambs... i did tan it as it doesnt happen often.

That 375BB Has a few Angus Bulls to its name LOL, apart from that just the usual, i think its had about 8 sambar kills with 220gr hornady reloads :) good short range accuracy with williams peep!!!

what sorta critters you got in mind?

When im back from my knee reconstruction il be carrying either R#1 or 375BB in sit an wait hunts.. i look forward to bringing you guys more photos of my success

You must live in either NSW where there are no regulations on dingos, or in Western Australia or Central Territories where permits and secure enclosures are required. Total bans on dingos for pets are in Tasmania, Queensland and South Aus.

As for the .375 BB and big critters, I reckon a go on a buffalo would be feasible using 255 gr. Barnes jacketed flat point bullets driven out at 1900-2000 fps. Not sure how wary the beasties are, but I'd want to take my shot within 75 yds. or less. I would also go for a 265-300 gr. round nose flat point cast boolit load in the 1700-1800 fps range.

I got no worries about shootin' dingos that pose a threat to livestock. I used to take out stray dogs on local sheep & chicken farms when I was young. Fookin' stray house cats are the scourge of smaller wildlife in any area & I'm more than happy to splat those bastards.

Nice BRNO Hornet by the way, and you'll no doubt have success in the near future. :)

Yeah mate im not 100% on the Rules about the Dingos, Im actually from Victoria. Think they had Alpine Dingoes and not the ones similar to the Fraser island or outback dingo. The alpines were from down here so there must be something to allow them as Pets, the authorities know about them, have had them for Years, 10-15 or more.. for interests Sake I will ask them next time I am out that way getting a inside scoop on that Valleys current hunting scope.

as for Cats... Yup... no problem what so ever LOL

Now.. I made a post prior to my Buffalo hunt as I was tossing up with the .375BB or the Whelen... I ended up taking a Whelen an Thankfully I did as where I hunted we were on Floodplain mostly so shot them over 150 an sometimes closer to 250m.... So im really glad I took the Whelen.. Although I got my chance to stalk in to a Bull in trees an shot him from 35 Paces which screams .375BB although headshot was used for Safety for Myself an hunting partners LOL... Angry buggers!!

If I was to do it again I would take 2 rifles, My Whelen and my .375BB now that have shot a few, I wouldn't mind going without for a few days an making a good kill shot on a good bull in the Trees with open sight Lever... although it wa one of them Once in a lifetime trips so opted for the more versatile Whelen.

Cheers mate

Edit- That BRNO was purchased by my Grandfather 2 years after he Arrived in Australia from Malta, he got it in about 1950 or 51 I think he said.. always spoke about it but didn't have it... a Local farmer friend actually borrowed it 50 years ago and didn't give it back but Pop knew where it was so wasn't worried..... I WAS!!!! at hes 80th Bday, It came cradled in the Farmers arms an was given back to my Grandfather... Well straight from Pops hands to me... thank you lord.

Good to read that your buff hunt was successful & ye made the right decision on using the Whelen because of the extended range of the shots on critters. I feel your pain over not havin' the .375 Winny for the buff up close in the trees.

If I fluked into enough money, I would happily do an extended hunt Down Under. (6 months minimum just to get a good feel for the terrain and conditions) I'd bring my .375 BB along with my .45-70 Pedersoli 86/71 and a BRNO .22 Hornet...fair dinkum.:)

The dingo ownership regs. in Victoria are that you need a permit along with a 30 sq. meter escape proof enclosure along with proper sheltering to ensure the health of the animals. Haven't checked the hunting
rules out yet, but I would check with the Resources & Environment dept. to make sure.

Hope the knee rebuild goes good for ye and I look forward to seeing more good hunt pics.:)

Cheers mate,
SS

Yeah SS that must be the case as these Dogs are in a big Pen with High fences etc, So id say they are on Permit.

There is a lot of Game to sort out in 6 months, you would have some work ahead but what a great 6 months it would be! Very different terrain from North to South, East to West over here but that's the beauty of it I suppose :) Let me know if you do ever trek down.

Thanks in re to the Knee, I frikken pulled a Hammy yesterday with my Son doin something I proberly should of so im spewing !!! bad knee side an all.. R n R in order for a while!!

Nice Ruger1 hangin out in the Trees "suits me" , I see you found the Ruger 1 thread though... nice work, is that a Elk wallow it is sitting in?
