Some new parts from ATRS

With the US getting harder to get parts out of we at ATRS decided to start to make some of them here in Canada.

Badger bolt knobs are no longer exported from the US, at least for now, so here is what we made.
Cost of knob alone is $50.00 plus gst and shipping, dealer discounts are available.
They are made of aluminum and are milspec hard anodized matte black.

Installed and blended in is $150.00

The recoil lugs will be in full production shortly, will update with pricing as soon as we know what they actually cost us to make.
 
No, No, No...we all know that you don't have the capability to make those things. You bad man! Stop to post lie!

I'm still bitter that I didn't see that thing make a recoil lug!

I guess the whole sad part is for the consumer who wants the certain items from the US and it is cost prohibitive to bring them into Canada.

You have to do what you have to do to keep your business viable.

If you can turn out products that are equivalent or better here in Canada that is going to be awesome. The headaches will ge gone.

I think what we need to see more of here in Canada is those who have machining backgrounds possibly think about starting a sideline manufacturing custom PRECISION parts. I am not suggesting one person trying to do it all but if one specialized in say rings, another bases, bolt knobs, recoil lugs,etc. etc. we would not need products from the US.

I know if I had the background that would be something I would be interested in. Maybe it will happen when I retire from my current job and I take a College course to get the basics in machining. There a few TOP NOTCH shortrange benchrest gunsmiths that started out this way.

I really feel specialization in a product is the key just as your specialty is Long Range guns.

Honestly for what I have invested in tooling and the time spent to program, build fixtures etc, I would have preferred to buy these parts from someone. The problem is not cost but the fact that many US manufacturers are not registering with the DOS, so the parts they make can NOT be exported regardless of price, at least through legal means. Badger has not registerd to date, so could not be obtained legally and I needed knobs.
The only way to make it worthwhile to make the knobs was to make ALOT of them, which I now have. Badgers loss, I know Marty will loose sleep over this:rolleyes:
Recoil lugs are the same drill, I need to make a whole bunch to make it worthwhile. Tubb and Holland whose lugs I used to use are no longer available to us through legal means, so I was forced to make them.
The positive part of this is that I and anyone else who needs these parts are no longer dependent on importing them.
As for the quality, I think after taking the mic to a US made lug and the 1s I have made so far, mine are a closer tolerance.
I guess I will have to see what the Canadian gunculture has to say on that for the final answer.

Am working on the lugs, I know you need 1. Patience is a virgin.;)

You never know what else may be in the works, but as I have stuff will update everyone.

After the actions thread debacle I am not saying anything about what is or isn't happening here until it is done, and I can show the doubting ones the proof.

pop quiz, I have a win mdl 70 featherweight but I would like a moderatly extended bolt knob put on that is shaved on the top side to offer more clearence for the scope eye piece when cycling the action.... how thin can you go to the bolt handle before concerns of strength appear.

this is a hunting rifle, first and foremost, I just want to be able to get my fingers in between the scope and the bolt know while cycling (this is a left handed rifle as well)

thoughts, words of wisdom ??

It has always been my belief a bolt handle should not be held/gripped by your fingers...

...palm the handle up, then hook it with a couple of fingers drawing it to the rear, palm it forward and down... that has always been fast and easy to do, and never binds the action up...

Wes An extended or oversized bolt knob can be made virtually any way you want it. The easiest way would be to do a standard knob conversion then mill off 1 side for the clearance you desire.

Rick,

What part number/model designation are you giving the two different styles of knob? I'll probably be looking to have one of the flat bottom models installed in a couple of weeks.
