Ive been very lucky/happy with norinco, it started out with a 1911 I bought from Marstar and sent in to Armco for some fine tuning and it turned out amazing so when I ran into the CQ M4 I thought why not try one and so far I'm extremely glad I did. I have a good friend I routinely shoot with that would of had absolutely no interest in a chi-com rifle however after seeing mine he decided to pick one up as well, needless to say he has not had the same experience as myself the rifle he reciever was all scratched up and the fit between the upper and lower was ridiculously bad so I encouraged him to send it back for a different one. After a bit of a run around he received a replacement today and its worse than the previous one:rolleyes: At the range today his rifle performed like crap as well with a ton of FTF's I guess the advantage of spending more coin on a more established rifle is sometimes worth it with the consistency / quality control from one rifle to the next.

Well, that's really the issue with Chinese stuff, isn;t it? Sometimes you get a good one, other times not. QA/QC isn;t in their vocabulary, it seems.

Change out the mags and try again. Chin AR mags that come with the gun are crap.

I've had several Chinese guns and every one a champ. I have also had S&W, Ruger and Bushmaster guns that didn't run very well out of the box.

It sounds to me like he still has to deal with the seller and get one that doesn't look lilke it was dragged through a stampede. A new gun should look new, period.

+1 on the mags, definitely try some alternates before condemning the reliability.

I've put about 1500 rounds through my CQ5.56 and only about 3 FTF. All were during the winter and i blame it on my lubricant (it was about -30C). Performs like a champ. Not the most accurate thing I have, but is a battle rifle with a 14.5" barrel after all. At 50 yds I'll hit the top face of a pop can, at 100 the side of the can. If I need precision, I'll get a precision upper. This thing is just for fun.
See if he can send it back with a letter outlining his concerns regarding fit and finish. Have one hand picked so to say.

These threads are always polarizing because the guys who got "good" norincos are their biggest fans, while many owners who got dogs are (rightly) upset with the Norincos they purchased.

The fact is, compare any norinco to an north american AR and the fit and finish issues become painfully obvious. Some might work well, but they certainly all look like cr@p up close.
