Some of the Best Training Days Come With Some of the Worst Scores

Got out for a round yesterday evening and a good friend showed up to shoot with me. That's always a good day. I abandoned my round of shooting singles for consistency and we did a practice round - score card and all.

A very humbling experience for both of us as it turned out. The first 5 stations were staring right into a very bright sunset. Hard to pick up birds. The wind was howling so helpful to get on em while they still had some stability - but like I said - hard to pick up in the first place.

Second half of the course, the wind mercifully let up - and clouds of mosquitoes came out. Almost reminded me of black fly season in Northern Ontario. That's going to take some thought, because I keenly remember how good that 95% deet Muskol used to be at keeping the critters off - and at removing finish from guns. Something I'd like to avoid on the Blaser.

Shooting in adverse conditions is something you can't schedule training for. Gotta take it when it comes. Both of us are easy goin' enough to have fun anyway. Not blaming missed birds on wind or sunset. Blaming ourselves for inadequate experience with those conditions. Workin' on it! ;)

My favorite days are when the low house gets to the centre stake then turns around and heads back the way it came !!!!

I had the worst start ever at sporting clays in a Delta Waterfowl shoot on Saturday. Because it was a fundraiser, the owner backed off the machines on the first ten stations so that it would be easier for the non member. I was not paying enough attention to the target speeds, and I shot them as I had the day previous, when the machines were still set up for our league. I ended up shooting 69% on the first ten stations, because I was reading the targets so badly. Then on station eleven, I took more time, and paid a lot more attention to the target speeds, and I started my best run ever on the course. I ended up dropping only four targets over the last ten stations, and shooting 93% on those ten stations. It took me shooting so badly on the first ten stations, to get me to take the time to really pay attention to the target presentations.

Stubblejumper, you should have come to the Tofield Federal 400. Excellent course and plenty of fun. Really good people.

With scores like that you may have won HOA.

Are you registered in the CNSCA?

Because of my terrible start, I ended up with an 97/120 overall, which likely wasn't even in the top ten for the day. The top shooter shot an amazing 118/120, second was 114/120, and two people in my squad tied for third with 106/120. I shoot in the league at Beaverhill, and my scores this year have been from 63-67/80, a ways back from the top shooters. My goal for the year was to average 85% for the league, and I need to improve a bit to make that goal. I have been shooting sporting clays for two years, and I still have a lot to learn.

I've been shooting sporting clay's for 25 years and still have a lot to learn! :)

CNSCA is hardly dead. Business goes on as usual with others taking on the roles left by vacancies. The AGM will be held in 10 days and vacancies will be filled by interested and competent volunteers. If you happen to check the CNSCA schedule, you will see there are 21 CNSCA registered shoots from now to year end, sometimes two on the same weekend. The registered shoot in Kamloops was sold out at 90 shooters over 2 weeks ago.

CNSCA is pretty much dead now, after half the board resigned

Far from dead. Only 3 positions resigned. And all three positions have been filled. The only reason the executive positions of Pres/Sec/Treas have not been appointed is because the AGM is next week anyway. The resignations were a good thing. It left a cohesive Board in place that has a united mindset. And much more going on behind the scenes to grow even bigger. Surprises in store!

Not dead at all. Shot the Federal 400 a few weeks ago. upcoming shoots at Silver Willow, Blackmore and others across the country. I believe executive holes have been filled.

I was there too! Great shoot. Fabulous facility and people running it. Our squad was awesome.

Hence why I mentioned if Spank shoots CNSCA. Those scores would result in decent standings.

This is the first year shooting registered shoots, however I’ve dabbled in sporting clay outtings with friends and have shot a few unregistered shoots in radium and Mossleigh prior.

Since Kamloops is full, I’m likely heading to Saskatoon next weekend. See if those Sasky’s can shoot. (I’m from Saskatchewan)

I don’t do Silver Willows shoots. Too pricey for me and have been hearing poor reports. A lot of long time members aren’t happy. I like the people, and the course is ok, but I think it kinda ends there. I’d sooner support the small guys. Lethbridge, Radium, Mossleigh, Tofield for sure if it goes ahead next year, etc. I’lll try to do ducks unlimited or pheasant forever’s.

If you see the guys in tents and sleeping in vans, come say hi! We probably have some beers to hand out.

As Im sure you know shoots are registered well in advance, including being in advance of the the recent meltdown. Kamloops would sell out if it was a fun shoot, one of the best run tournaments going !

No, you are incorrect, 5 people resigned but 2 of them will stay on until the AGM.

#### happens.

Spots will be replaced. I don’t know anything about the situation, but the world will continue to rotate. I doubt it’ll dissapear.

For the record, those two announced they are stepping down at the end of their term which expires at the AGM anyway. In the mean time they have been participating in Board meetings and decision processes. Not really the same as resigning.
