Some oldies

Whats on the bottom of the pistol grip on the Mossberg? It could be a Speigel model. Is the receiver drilled and tapped? Brno is nice too.

It’s a screw driver. Optical illusion. Yes it’s drilled and tapped with screws in place. So maybe a spiegel. Don’t know more than I’ve research lately. Which isn’t much. Cheers

What caliber is the Steven's, they made them in 22, 25 and 32 rim fire, nice 22's are hard to find not all beat to crap.
While we are talking about these, any one have a breach block for one in 22 they don't need?

It’s .22. Strangest 22 I’ve seen for awhile. It’s a falling or rolling block breach. Tilts and hold every thing put.

Swinging block; they are not strong. The 1915 is an upgrade from the 1894 Favorite but not by much. Avoid high velocity ammunition. CCI Quiets, CB Longs are normally OK. The issue is backthrust, and modern .22's produce a surprising amount of backthrust relative to original loadings (and some other cartridges). Most of the stress gets concentrated on the pivot pin & lever pin; and they are not a strong steel. They do bend.

Check that the lever is still snapping up tight to the lower tang, if there is any play it is a sign that the pins are starting to bend. You'll have to make new ones and Stevens tended to use (or you may find yours has) some odd pitch. So you will probably have to drill out & re-thread. Use good quality alloy steel for the new pins, if you need to make em. Chances are in that case, the pivot holes will be oblonged a bit anyway so good to freshen them up.

If you keep them on a reasonable diet of CB Longs, the Favorites are fantastic fun. I love 'em.

Thanks for the information. They are very interesting little rifles. I will treat it well and feed it a diet of soft food. It needs some parts but looks useable, with a decent bore. Does anyone know if the Mossberg model 51 has a bolt hold back lock? I can’t seem to lock it open. The safety on the BRNO Model 5, I cant quite figure that out either. It looks like you push it forward but it sure doesn’t feel like it wants to. It might be different with a round in it but I’m not sure. I’m also looking for metal magazines of this vintage Brno in ten round. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks again
Cheers

The Brno safety should push forward when cocked.I don't think it will move if uncocked or fired. I don't have my M51 in front of me but I don't think it does have a hold open. If it does you would pull the bolt back and push the cocking handle in.

Thanks. What type of Ammo is needed to cycle the Mossberg? It’s just a hair younger than me and I’m pretty weak these days. I’ll start on the soft side til I get it to cycle. The Brno looks new so I would think it can take most Ammo but again I’ll see what it likes and start at standard velocities.
Cheers

That's how my 151 works, but looking at OP's pictures it doesn't appear that the 51 has the same setup.

Not exactly the same, but my 151 runs happily on 525 pack Federal or Dynapoint GT bulk ammo as well as a couple standard velocity choices I tried.

The M51 also known as a flatback is an older model and the end cap on the receivers don't have a heavy thread. I wouldn't use anything high velocity for fear of blowing the cap off. Use only standard velocity in that one. the Brno will shoot pretty much anything. CCI Blazers or the 525/333/222's are usually a good place to start if you want to do some plinkin.

Good advice. It is the flat back and I’d agree that the threads aren’t very robust. The flip
up front ghost ring is very neat too. The Brno came with a weaver b4 scope that I can hardly see through but it looks the part. Thanks again

Try western gun parts in Edmonton for the mags, I have 10 rd mag for the norinco JW15 that works in the Bruno's., but I don't know of a supplier for them.
