I know somebody will say "donot go hunting with muzzle brake"...I am not here to talk about it...

but "which one ?"

the defcon one seems get lots of good reviews but all of them are based on resting on the bench....
because it redirects most of the gas upwards...thus presses down the muzzle a lot bit....
for resting on the bench it is OK...

but for hunting, if I hand hold it in a standing or kneeling position, would it press down my muzzle too much ????

Thanks for your input

the defcon 1 is a copy of germany " Roedale" muzzle brake, has a very good review... but all the review I saw, is based on prone position or on the bench...

but I would like to shoot on stand or kneel position

would the second one, Grizzly Muzzle Brake be a better choice ?

Go to a smaller caliber that you don't need a gun brake on...your hearing when you get older will be much better...

Missed the "I know somebody will say "do not go hunting with muzzle brake"...I am not here to talk about it..." did you?

Top port brakes are good if you are shooting prone but of the hundreds of brakes I have installed for hunters the vast majority are ported 360 degrees.

Here is a picture of a threaded on brake, ported only to the sides.

I personally prefer for any actual hunting shooting a 270 degree ported device: only the bottom 90 degrees is not done. This allows for good control, prevents excessive blast up into your sight area (irons or scope), prevents down blast if prone for any reason, and generally reduces recoil while reducing muzzle rise.

Oh, BTW, wear electronic ear defenders: ports are a blast to shoot (in the fun, porting and to your hearing)!

yes, thanks for reminding, I do wear a electronic ear defenders .....

I am just want to know your opinions , if I will choose one from the above two, which one is better ?

You may not want to hear it, but you should listen while you can hear. If you do have to use a brake avoid anything with ports on the bottom if you are ever going to shoot prone. No use being deaf and blind.

I know your asking for an opinion on the above mentioned two muzzle brakes but you may want to consider a Vais.

I have one on my .270 WSM and its very effective. I believe its ported 360 degrees and is quite small.

The two brakes you pictured are ugly as sin and are for pre threaded tactical style rifles. You will get better accuracy and performance with a brake fitted closely to your rifle threaded with a shoulder to index to and the brake then bored true with the bore.

I would say go with the grizzly if it had to be one of the two for hunting, although by design I would have to think the defcon1 would reduce recoil better. The grizzly is going to have less decibels for the shooter.
