So, I've been so happy with the way my Valmet Hunter Galil clone's been coming along, I broke down and bought a 5.56mm M78 to go along with it. Can't wait to get the Galil clone done, but at least I can play with this one while I wait for the parts to finish that one!

The M78:

It may end up being a hybrid Galil/M76/M78: i'm thinking about adding a Galil gas tube and receiver cover, which would relocate the rear sight to the receiver cover from the gas tube. If I do, it'll be totally reversible. May also try a Galil bolt carrier. The Galil stock isn't bolted on yet, as I need to source a bolt that will work.

Awesome! ...but so expensive XD The amount us poor Canadians will pay for a NR AK. Meanwhile, in the United States, Americans are complaining about how they have to pay more than $1000 dollars to get a PSL now ! lol

Damn thats nice . I had 2 rifles in front of me and i only had money for one : ( i Picked BD 44 and i dont regret it. Valmet was the other one

that is very nice!
is that a 762 receiver? the mag looks like its for 556.

5.56. Would've preferred a 7.62x39, just for affordable mags, but I've always wanted an AK74, so... close enough! 7.62x39 mags do fit in the receiver, though, so it could probably be re-barreled in 7.62x39 if I ever decided to change it. Trigger group, hammer, and bolt carrier all seem identical between the two calibers, just a different bolt, barrel and mags.

That is a nicely modified m78. Folding stock and bipod delete looks good.

Thanks! Plan is to shorten the barrel, too, but that may be a while.

So you snapped up that 5.56 M78 from the EE a few days back... I was in the process of putting another rifle for sale on the EE to fund it when I checked the add on my phone and it was gone already haha...

Please don't mod your new M78 :(

i was under the impression that only the 7.62 model had the back of the receiver flat were the stock mounts to it? is it only the M78 that has the flat back?

man thats a nice looking rifle..

All stamped recievers have the flatback, while milled ones are angled

thanks bfiles. now that you point it out, i dont know how i could miss that....?

is it more common for the 762x39 receivers to be stamped rather then milled? its something that has stood out to me, but i didnt know why until now.

Non-restricted 7.62x39 Valmets only come as stamped M78's, not milled Hunters. The Hunter wasn't made in 7.62x39. My 7.62x39 Hunter was built from a .308 Hunter.
