While I still had an M78 and was working on making a buttstock adapter for it I measured the original buttstock bolt so I could make shorter ones to attach my upcoming stock adapter.

The thread was M8 0.75 pitch.

So if it's the really fine thread - that's it.

The hunters I have, have a coarser thread though.

I think i had heard because the government bought a bunch for an Indian band or Bands as part of a deal way back when... Would look bad if the guns they literally just gave out for hunting were deemed too evil for legit purposes like hunting.
