My local hock shop has a #5, MkI Jungle Carbine that has been bubba'd for sale at $699.

I snickered when I saw the price and the clerk couldn't figure out why.

I know the 5s generally command a premium, but not a chopped up bubba.

That's capitalism, who ever's property this is can ask what ever they want, you don't have to like it, just don't buy it.

I demand that the government regulate rifle prices. A free market economy is the same as invading Poland. The next thing you know civilians will be allowed to sell guns at a price of their own choosing. This is worse than putting a 5% surcharge on tea prices. Mark my words.

People can put things up for sale at whatever price they like. If it doesn't sell maybe the price was too high. If just one person buys it then that was the market value at that instant in time.

It's like when Corwin had LE's in for 895-995+. There were lots of posts about "crazy prices" yet they sold out quickly.....same thing with the recent bunch of $2200 Garands from Tradex........lots of carping about the price as they were selling quickly.

Those are legit pieces that were made up by Burton Cummings of Intraarms for Tommy "Gun" Ferrari the mercenary. This was done to enable export via Rhodesia as "Sporting Goods", the whole thing was finance by DB Copper and was shipped in a train called the "Spruce Caboose". The ultimate destination were the rebels in Probio. At this time someone asked Pierre Trudeau about the situation there and he famously said "Where's Probio?".

I wonder what the shop paid for it to ask such a rediculous price.

That's easy. Pawn Shops operate on the 50% principle. When the customer brought the rifle in,the shop owner researched the wholesale price, then, asks the customer how much they want and offer 50% of that value knowing that 95% of their customers are desperate or just wanting to get rid of junk. Most customers take the offer, although, some will negotiate a slightly higher price and walk out thinking they did well. Under no circumstances will a pawn broker allow the price to get much higher than 50% more of the ask. They're in business to make money. Then, they'll set their own price high enough to leave wiggle room, but, enough to turn a good profit.

S-h-h-h-h! Let's not give the Liberals any more ideas. What could possibly go wrong with that?
