Ok I am VERY close to heading out to Bass Pro and buying myself a Remington 597, BUT, the only things stopping me are the Remington 30 round mags.
Hi cap mags are a MUST for me, and before anybody says it, no I'm not looking to get a 10/22 I've handled and fired my friend's. It's just not for me.

Are there any substitute hi capacity mags for the 597? I've heard of the brand Shooter's Ridge just haven't seen where I can find them.

A lot of stores carry those mags, if not in stock they should be able to order. Do you not like the Remington factory 30 round mags?

Buy the Shooters Ridge 25 rounders. Way better design and alot less headache. Mystic Precision sells them and the are a million times better.

Thanks everybody, I've gone ahead and contacted Mystic, but just for the hell of it I'll buy one of the Remington ones and load those to 25 :D

Do yourself a favour and buy a Ruger 10/22, I've been through a Remington 597 and Remington 597 VTR - they're all junk, the mags are junk, the bolts are junk, the extractors are junk (you get the point) not to mention they are super fussy about ammo. I have a Ruger 10/22 now and have never been happier....

yep buy the ruger for sure

dont just buy the ruger, LOVE the ruger! I swear i saw, 'made in china' stamped on all the 597's guts. They should just stamp it on the barrel so you dont have to go looking for it when everything breaks down after 1 shot.......

I've got a 597 and have no problems for more than a year now.

EXCEPT with the 30-round magazines, in which I can barely force the afore-mentioned 25 rounds and even 16-20 jam and stick. The spring just doesn't seem to be strong enough.

By contrast, I've never had any feed or loading issues with the 10-round metal magazines the 597 comes with.
