I would like to buy an old 8 gauge shotgun single shot or double

The above post is from the shotgun EE. Somebody clearly just finished watching "Appaloosa" with Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen. Great film. Viggo never let go of that 8 gauge for the entire film. I love that shotgun.

I was at the HACS show last spring and bought some 8 gauge shells for my collection.
Was at Reliable in Vancouver and talk of the recent show came up along with buys/spies, etc.
I mentioned my buys and Dave got all excited about an 8 gauge he owned.
He went onto say how he an insert made for it (10gauge) iirc and even took it out hunting once or twice.
There was a Punt Gun for sale several years ago in the Buy&Sell rag...long before the advent of CGN thats for sure.
They are out there, one just has to keep their eyes open is all.

It's a Greener, if I remember correctly. Far too deadly to be allowed to be used on modern waterfowl, hence the insert.

CIL used to make 8 gauge shotshells for use in cement kilns. Don't know if they are still used in the industry.

Yup, I know of an old bauxite mine (I think CIL owned it) that used to use a tripod mounted 4 gauge to shoot the kiln. Wish I could have seen that!:)
