Hi

I'm teaching English in Korea and have been here 4 years. Maybe the wierd things goin on here have made me a bit unstable upstairs ya know? No, you might not. Anyway, I'm checking out guns and gun clubs and gun ranges and well, just the opportunities available to fire off a bunch of bullets. All for fun of course.

When I return to Canada in June 2008, I will be continuing to teach English to Koreans staying / studying in Calgary. What a cool opportunity for them to shoot a gun! They sure can't do that here in Korea! Guns are a total taboo!

So here I am, all interested in guns. ... WTF! I must be crazy!

When??? That was last year.

As far as guns being Taboo... I am told (my bro spent a year there) toy guns are everywhere in Korea (unlike here) and that all males serve in the military. Sounds to me like they get to shoot plenty but just not privately.

opps!

Thanks for catching my typo. I'll be back in 2008. Toy replica guns here are HUGE! You can get a METAL replica hand gun like a glock or beretta for about $10. As for military service. The first 21 months is mostly patrol training or service as guard and lesser police like duty. The men that continue to serve after the manditory 21 months get to touch the arms.

Nah,

Really, N.Korea has no money left. I bet the soldiers have run clean outta bullets.

If you have any extra to share, I'm sure Kim Jong Il would like to have them.

Gimme the co-ordinants, I might have somethin big enough to launch a few to him:D

How about some scissors for a decent hair cut? I mean really...does he have hired people around him that tell him that looks cool?

Emark - send a PM to 'platnumbob' on this site - He's a buddy of mine from Calgary who is currently teaching english in SK as well!!!

And here I am, I just found the thread. Ive been in Korea for 11 months...in 1 month im going home! I think being away from Calgary/ my guns has made me appreciate shooting a lot more. Emark I know how you feel...have you been home at all for the last 4 years? Thats a long haul. I enjoyed my year but I think thats probably enough for me. Ive found that shooting guns at the ranges in Seoul and other Korean cities has been prohibitively expensive, even as much as 70$ to shoot a box of 22LR. Ive made it by with buying some cheap airsoft guns (they have many here) and then just shooting paper targets in my apartment...of course if you have a wife like myself this causes some hassles with the mess afterward:evil:

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Wow, it's so nice to be loved by a bunch of English speakers for a change! ;)

DOOK; I'm really not sure about how Kim JongIl really lives. Everything is speculation! If this site let's us post pictures... I have some great photoshoped images of the Dear Leader that are a real hoot!

Geoff, I will add you as a friend soon here soon!

Welcome :)

Nothing strange or weird about being interested in the shooting sports and firearm collecting, there's millions of us here in Canada. :)

You can shoot in south korea but it is very expensive, I go once a year. For people who can afford to study overseas it shouldn't be a problem to pony up the thirty or so bucks to fire off ten shots.

I think what I might want to do is collect everyones "I don't like this gun anymore, but it still works, but it aint worth a dime" guns. Maybe I can set a Canadian record for having the most unused and useless guns in the registry! :p
