I have a model 146Ba mossberg and it put 20 shots into .8 inches at 50 yards 2 nights ago. I am at work now so I can't put up a picture of the target, but will tomorrow. Anyhow, My friend that was with me really liked the gun and wants one too. Anyhow, after looking, I noticed that the model 46B's look quite similar and then I saw a model 346B that also looked alike. Anyhow, other than build periods, what differences exist between the 3 different models. (sights? stock size? bolt? wood dimensions? Rifling?) Any help would be appreciated to help our confusion. Mine shoots like a hot laser, and I love it. But if he can choose between 3 genre's of mossbergs it will open up his options to getting one just like mine or similar. What model of the 3 is generally considered the best or most desirable??

The 46B was only made in 1946 and '49. The 146B was made from 1949 to 1958 and was a post war version of the 46. Both models had a couple of different sights and minor differences over their production life. Same rifle with different stock and sights.
Might be an issue finding either model.

You are right about the different build periods . The Model 51 series also changes with the years like 51 is 1939-46 (circa) 151 M ..1946 151M(a)..1947....I love these old Mossys and use a couple in the gopher fields. Excellent rifles and were built originally for target shooting. The only difference I have seen in the rifles I have is the improvement in the bolts and the changing shapes of the woods, some were tube fed and others a drop out mag. The sights also vary with each model but from year to year they seemed to use the same sight models.Lots of info on mossbergcollectors. org.
